Mac Networking Question
So ive recently aqquired a G3 300mhz/128mb powerbook.
For the price, i couldnt say no. But anyways, i want to get this thing networked to my home pc. The G3 is running Mac OS 9.1. I now have it setup as my XP machine does all the legwork. I have 3 nics in it. 1 to cable modem, 1 to other pc, and 1 to xbox/notebook. Its setup as a DHCP server, so the IP is handed out to each of the NICs. I know the connection is fine. Because it works no problem with the xbox (allows it on the internet, gives it an ip, etc). When the cable is connected to the powerbook, it doesnt pick up and ip, therefore wont allow it on the net. Also, on the XP machine, for each of the connections i run, theres an icon in network neighbourhood, and when the cable is connected, it says it is, but with the powerbook, even when connected, it doesnt say it is. Ok, the next point, i tried hooking the powerbook directly up to the cable modem, and it gives it an IP. The ip should be 24.x.x.x, but its getting a weird 169.x.x.x. And also, internet doesnt load up, etc etc.. The only settings ive found in Mac OS, is setting it for DHCP in the TCP/IP control panel. The gentleman i purchased it from said he had it on the net, and i can see clearly from back ie explorer logs he has, and very recently. So the network card *should* be working. So what do you guys think? Please help, MAC noobie ![]() |

They're at work.
![]() I'm a Mac guy, but know nothing about networking. Hopefully someone will come along to help you out. Congrats on your purchase.
