Personal proxy servers
I'm just curious as to who uses Personal Proxy Servers in their browsers.
I'm talking about utilities like Proxomitron or Privoxy. These allow you to block pop-ups, banner ads, animated gifs, spy-ware, redirects, cookies etc. The list goes on and on. Once you start using them you won't go back. Trust me. Not only do they make surfing faster (no more loading those annoying and superflous graphic rich banner ads or animated gifs), but they can also be used to make web-pages behave. The two best utilities are absolutely free. Until recently I used Proxomitron. I swore by it (still do). You can find it at www.proxomitron.info However I recently came across Privoxy which also seems an excellent utility and is being developed by OpenForge. Privoxy can be found at www.privoxy.org I highly recommend either one. Privoxy may be a better bet as it is still being developed (Proxomitron is not), but it's too early to tell. Both are supported by very large active user communities. www.proxomitron.info www.privoxy.org Have fun. Mr Mephisto |
Being a dialup user I only really need a proxy to work as a cache, no of any that are good for windows? I rely on my browser to block popups/spyware, and it does a good enough job.

I'd never used them before, but I installed and am trying out Privoxy - I have to say that I'm now a big fan. No more popups, funky javascript, etc. Thanks for recommending it!
