Adobe Illustrator Saving Issue

Background:

We are running Illustrator 10 on Windows XP.
The issue happens when saving locally or to the network.

Problem:
The file in this example is 184,410 KB.

When saving in EPS format locally or to the network Illustrator creates two TMP files: the first being 184,409 and the second one being 184,???. I am unable to determine the exact value of the second file because the two TMP files disappear once the second file reaches (presumably) 184,410 KB leaving the final .eps file.

This may not seem like a big deal but it is very significant problem when trying to save to the network since the file is basically being transferred twice.

Has anyone else run into this? Is it "expected" behavior? Is there something we are doing wrong?

Thanks,
c_b
