Simple photoshop question

I am making my avatar in photoshop, its 50x100. I am having trouble drawing on the very last column of pixels on the right. If I use a 2+ pixel brush I can do it just fine, but when using the 1 pixel brush it doesn't seem to want to do that last row. It does the left furthermost wall alright, but the right won't paint.

I have tried making new images, doing it on old ones, and changing the format, but it still doesn't seem to like it. Any ideas?

Which version of Photoshop are you using?

Try the pencil tool with a 1 pixel tip and zoom way in.

Also you can put the grid on and see the pixel lines.

Another question - are you using some sort of custom cursor? Just curious.

1) I'm using photoshop 7.0... It tries to autoupdate when I start, but it never connects. I have ignoreed it , but now I'll try and update it.

2)I was using the pencil 1px tool, zoomed in at 1600% (max it goes). I put the grid on, but how do you change the size of the grid? Right now I'm getting a 4x8 grid for my 50x100 pic.

3) No custom cursor, I have tried the brush with 1px diamater, the pencil tool with 1px diameter, and the eraser with 1px diameter.

Have you tried using the "precise" or "brush size" cursors? (set from Edit -> Preferences -> Display & Cursors) Just a thought...

What mode is the file you are working with? It may be unable to edit the last row because of how the color is mapped.

Click on Image->Mode and list what sort of items are checked.

Also, you might just want to cheat. If you go to Image->Adjustments->Canvas Size, you can increase the size of the canvas, make your adjustments, and recrop it afterwards.

Oops, thought this post was dead. Thanks for the replies though.

I was already using the "brush size" cursor, so I changed to precise, but nothing.

The mode it says is "Indexed Color". I tried changing to RGB and CMYK but the same thing.

What I ended up doing is flipping the whole thing horizontally so the right edge is on the left. After I finish I just flip it back. Not a herculean effort, but t's odd that this is happening.
