MP3 Playing on home network...?!

I have 2 PCs networked in my home and I'd like to play the same MP3 on each system at the same time. Is there an app out there that would syncronize the playing of mp3s?

To the best on my knowledge, there is no such app for the windows OS. However, i think it's a capital idea and i'd love to see what you can find that will do this. I belive you may have luck with google using such searches as "mp3 sync" and "mulitiple point mp3 player"
The best of luck in your search.

do you mean you'd have one person at each computer listening to whatever music they'd want to listen to, and perhaps the same track at the same time? or do you mean you want the same song coming out of each computer's speakers at once, perhaps to make the sound go thoroughout the household?

Set up a Shoutcast server on one PC, and then you'd point both MP3 players (Winamp, WMP, etc.) at the shoutcast server.

More info here: http://www.shoutcast.com/

You dont need to go through any of that complicated crap.
set up filesharing on each computer's mp3 directoty and enable the guest account for each computer

to play MP3 from computer 1, in winamp (for example) open file, navigate to network places > computer 2 > mp3 folder > song.mp3

it will load the network address into your play list and you can then play it on command - also works with directories

I did this for a long time when I used to run an MP3 FTP

Yea, sharing MP3s between two computers is no problem at all as Halx stated. However, unless I misread the original post, he wants to syncronize both of his computers to always play the same song. At that point, I'd say that Shoutcast is probably his best option.

shoutcast still won't work because of buffers, the remote system would lag, would it not?

Buffering would throw you off, but I think that if you turned all Shoutcast buffering off, it would be in sync unless it lagged, which is unlikely on a home network. How much in sync, I'm not sure, there might be an audible difference.

A shoutcast server is your best bet.

The original poster didn't specify how the computers are networked together and what O/S each is running though so it's hard to recommend any software. There are some free shoutcast servers I believe at <a href=""http://freshmeat.net">Freshmeat.net
