Something other than a camera to play back Mini DV tapes? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Hello,

Hope everyone is well.

We're working on building a nice computer to do all our video editing at our Church and I'm looking for something that we can use to playback and capture the mini DV tapes onto the computer. Don't want to use the camera itself (Sony HDR FX 1000) as 1) it would tie up the camera for periods of time 2) wears out the mechanisms. Is there something that a) fits into the CD drive bay of a computer that accepts tapes or b) plugs into the firewire port and lets me capture it?

I have no idea if such a thing exists, so I'm looking forward to people's responses!
