IE support for menus?

My specific question here is, how important do you guys think supporting IE and the numerous shortcomings it has is? My plan is to ditch my table based menu for something more dynamic based on (Pure CSS Menus) that does not use javascript at all.
Explorer has piss poor CSS support for the full effect and of course Opera and FF work perfectly. My thoughts are to make a few concessesions by posting the popout links (there would not be many) separately as needed on select pages.
I have an admittedly strong bias against IE in any form and the ongoing "playing catchup, still missing a boatload of features" but many out there are stuck with it or prefer it for whatever reason, and my personal feeling should not be the dominating factor here.

If the information in this link (Market share for browsers, operating systems and search engines) is correct you better make sure your site works with IE.

That percentage certainly has dropped from the 90+% always mentioned in the past.
I do agree with you and think that 'works with IE' can mean a full blown CSS menu for everyone else and an easy enough workaround for the IE visitors to cover the 'missing' popups.
edit: just posting this thread gets my mind going on good ways to do that.

There are couple of factors that can affect any attempt to measure popularity of browser.
A. Where and how it is measured (I guess that Apple and www.microsoft.com show diffrent results :-)
B. For troublefree browsing I used to set my Opera to report back as IE 5.5 that prevented some bad webservers to return garbage if the browser didn't lie about it's indentity.

On CSS menues check out GRC|Script-Free Pure-CSS Menu Demo

I used to do the same thing

all of these menus look sharp and nicely JS free but it bothers me somewhat to just take someone's hard work at coding, change some colours and other external trappings and throw them on my site. it downrights irrates me when someone straight up copies the entire look of something very well known like the slashdot menu without changing even a drop in appearance (of course I wish had the experience with CSS to at least accomplish the feat though)
That GRC site certainly has changed in appearance since my last vist many many moons ago.

As it states on that page "Placed into the Public Domain:
All of this work has been placed into the Public Domain. We hope that it will be of use and benefit to anyone wishing to adapt this system for their own use. "

There are also links to helpful info if you want to create your own.
