ceramic coolers

this is my first new thread, so i hope it works

i am wondering about ceramic coolers, the things that get hot on the fan side and cool on the cpu side

have any of you used them and did you have any problems, or gain in performance?

also, a side note, i have a xfx geforce 4 5200 with 128 mb of ddr, it did not come with a fan, just a heatsink, should i put an expansion slot fan next to the heatsink to cool more effectivly, or is it no big deal

thanks for all the help

Are you talking about a Peltier?

you dont really use peltiers in air cooled systems... the hot side gets too hot for air cooling... but you also got to worry about condensation because it is a sub ambient system...

You shouldn't but it depends on what other cooling you got. Watch the temps inside your computer.

it's also called a TEC (ThermoElectric Conductor). go read about them on overclockers.com.

There is a Swiftech heatsink that ships with a 226w peltier (MCX462+T), but its performance doesn't warrant the headache peltiers cause. I've used TECs in 3 separate water-cooling loops, and when they work they way they're supposed to, you can get sub-zero CPU temperatures; but in the end they are just a pain in the ass, either because of the brittle wires, or having to power them with a separate supply, or preventing condensation from shorting your board.

more info can be found in the cooling forums at short-media.com and xtremesystems.org
