Trojan removals and IE Antivirus question

So the past few days i've been getting this message whenever I open up certain folders to get to certain items.



It takes me to a site to download IE Antivirus, which I've learned is spyware/malware or whatever it is. Even when I click no it still takes me to the site. My question is, what is making this pop-up come up every time I click on a certain folder? I don't have IE Antivirus installed. I've run a full system check and i have 19 trojans/worms but none of them relate to IE Antivirus. How do I get rid of this message popping up?

Also, after I run a full scan and the 19 items come up it says "removal failed" and will only let me review them. How do I go about getting rid of that? I've been reading that I might have to go into safe mode and do a scan and removal. Is this true? Thanks guys.

It appears to be like Anti-Virus 2008, which is itself malware. Try running one of the trusted anti-spyware apps to get rid of it.

Spybot found 1 thing but it still didn't fix it. I still get the message.

that is the only thing I find suspect in your list. idef.dll

I'm sure you are doing spybot etc, in Safe mode?

I ran spybot and norton in safe mode and spybot found nothing. Norton gave me the same thing. It said it couldn't remove the threats, only review them.

Yes I've run ad-aware and got rid of a bunch of stuff but that didn't solve the problem.

I've also noticed that my web browsing has slowed down significantly. Do you think it is related to my trojan/ IE Antivirus problem? It takes a lot longer for pages to load and such and I was just curious.

sorry i've not been able to find more on your particular issue. it so far has me stumped.

I'm going to suggest that you follow this methodology but for the check boxes,

Download HijackThis and double click on the file for install.
Download CCleaner. Double click on the file for install.
Download Combofix.
Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri). Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Reboot your computer again in Safe Mode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Start HijackThis. Click “Do a system scan only.” and put a checkmark next to the following items (if exists):

Note: SSODL modules can have random name(blue color) and some different clsid(red color), use google for check them.

Now close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click “Fix Checked” to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Press the number 2 on your keyboard and the press the enter key to choose the option Clean (safe mode recommended).

You will be prompted : “Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?“; answer “Yes” by typing Y and press “Enter” in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer “Yes” by typing Y and press “Enter”.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn’t, please restart it into Normal Windows.

Close any open browsers. Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

Run CCleaner.

Click Analyze button. After scan your system, click Run Cleaner.

If everything seems to be good - pop ups are gone, no any redirects, then you should make a new restore point.Disable system restore to flush out infected restore points. Reboot your computer again. Turn on Windows System Restore. After that click START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM RESTORE. click on “create new restore point” > click on NEXT and follow the prompts.
