Comp help?
heya guys. I've been a frequent of TFP for awhile, but after getting my new computer, whenever I try to save a picture that i like, it's saved as a .bmp...which is fine, but it takes too much room. Before the new computer, everything was saved as a .jpg.
Anyone know how I can change it back to having it save pics a .jpg default? Thanks. -Cho |

make sure the image is a .jpg to start out with? if your browser is fubar you can always convert them later on
|
does anyone know of a good bmp to gif converter?
|
eek! bmps wouldn't look good as gifs. Gifs are only 256 colors. Bmps could be, but are ususally 1000s+ But for the average user they are annoyingly uncompressed (therefore large). I would suggest jpg for them
check download.com for a shareware file converter. As for the thread.... does it even default to bmp after you select jpg on the file before it? My guess is that it would try to save it as the filetype it is (on the server). (you can always change it from bmp to jpg under "Save as type: " at the save prompt) |
Let me guess you are using internet explorer as your browser
It has a bug in it that changes jpgs to bmp Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already started). Empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder. To do so: On the Tools menu, click Internet Options . Click the General tab. Under Temporary Internet files , click Delete Files . When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK This should fix your problem |
as for conversions, ms paint can do the job

It can also be the result of a damaged or unknown class object or program within IE. After doing what poolman55 suggested you may also want to click on:
Settings under the Internet Properties > Temporary Internet Files window View Objects Delete any "Unknown" or "Damaged" objects here. You can find more info about this issue @ http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;810978 LNCPapa |
Thanks Pool and LNC, I did both and now it works. Thanks a ton!
