I think work wins.

Not even going to try my home connection ... it's really just pathetic.

This is my desktop at work 10/100 connection (Windows XP):

http://www.speedtest.net/result/243038043.png

This is from a machine with a Gigabit connection running Windows Server 2003:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/243041347.png

Notice the upload speed.

We have a 45Mbs connection. I'll have to set up a machine outside the firewall sometime and try it.

Interestingly, I got much better results from using a machine further away than the "recommended" server.

Work. I'll do home later. Work has DSL.

Home is a bit faster. Comcast cable.

That's what you get in a 3rd world country with a telecommunications monopoly. :|

My house connection, believe it or not, I pay $61.00 a month for this speed.

To be fair, at least you get a metal suit in which you can fly.

blahblah454 03-06-2008 09:08 PM

That is true willravel. I would take a kick ass suit with pulse weapons in my palm than a fast internet connection.

I think I pay $35 a month for this or something. I'm really going to miss it when I move.. no high-speed (other than Sprint wireless or phone as modem, $60 a month! Blech!) where I'll be going.

Not too bad, though the connection speed fluctuates quite a bit, and I get quite different results from different servers.

Jinn 03-08-2008 11:52 AM

Finally got around to doing my home connection:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/243863157.png

This was my work one, again..
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/9595/redactedvj1.png

And yet, somehow, inexplicably.. my home connection "feels" faster. It's an interesting thing to note that my ping is 1/3 of my work connection, even if the connection itself only supports half the bandwidth.

meh closest test was el paso which is 280 miles or so away, i dont know if that makes a difference or not

Martian 03-11-2008 05:24 PM

I recently changed providers and because I'm on a dry loop and they couldn't test my line, they decided that I'd have to start with the low (1mbps) tier service and upgrade once I was connected. Tomorrow I get my 7mbps connection. For now, I get this:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/245202767.png

I can't wait.

EDIT - For anyone who's keeping track, that's running Firefox in Ubuntu, on ADSL over an ethernet cable.

EDIT #2 - Broadband ftw! Given that my connection is theoretically 7mbps down/ 768kbps up, this would appear to be the physical limit my line is capable of supporting:

Home connection

http://www.speedtest.net/result/309297570.png

I HAD the RR Turbo package 15mb down speed, but I hardly ever saw that kind of speed so I canned it within the first 30 days for a refund, I am on regular old Time Warner RR now.

Willravel 01-06-2009 05:45 PM

I just bought a new Mac mini and, using the exact same internet service and server, I basically doubled my previous score. What do you suppose that means?

connyosis 01-07-2009 05:06 AM

http://www.speedtest.net/result/385660667.png

I have TV and phone via this connection as well, and TV uses a bunch of bandwidth.

MontanaXVI 01-12-2009 01:54 AM

Here is a good one, I still have the same service but now it seems I am getting the "Powerboost" that they offer on their Turbo level of service. It is a huge pump in your downstream for the first part of a download so you can finish it faster.

I am hitting near RR Turbo speeds on their regular service now on speedtest.net my ul is always right around the 512 it is supposed to be, so I know I am not on the Turbo level of service since they tout 768 ul speeds.

This is on a wireless Draft 11n router. I'll take it!

Redjake 06-30-2009 04:06 PM

I had fiber optic service here ran to my home as well. It's $59.99 per month for the 20 Mbps symmetrical tier.

Check out the upload...

tcp 06-30-2009 05:11 PM

http://www.speedtest.net/result/507399179.png
I don't ever see this speed though since comcast does bursting, throttles certain connections, and drops your connection if you upload too much in a short span.
