PS2 mod chip recommendation?

I'd like to get a PS2 mod chip. I have a PS2 Slim that I got about a year ago (as I understand that does matter). I can solder on it. What kind of mod chip should I get, and from where?

For mine, I got the cd-rom hack. It just requires removing a couple screws, and removing the cover to the old cd and putting the new one on. You load a boot disk first, then put in a backup disk afterwords. They're about 10$ online, just search around.

I'd rather not use a boot disk. I have yet to see any that can boot both PS1 and PS2 games, and I'd like to be able to do both.

Can you explain this further, the whole mod chip thing vs. the cd-rom hack, what's it do? what's it supposed to do?

Here's a site that has some: http://www.ps2cover.com/ps2-mod-chip.shtml (this particular site apparently has problems delivering orders, hence why I'm asking)

The main purpose is to read import disks, however the most common use is to make the PS2 able to read burned games.

I'd like a processor/ram upgrade for my ps2, actually.
