XP Shut down process

Is there a way to view the shutdown process for Windows XP pro sp2? My computer takes a ridiculous amount of time to shut down (about 5 min). I've gone so far as to close EVERYTHING that is open such as AIM, IE and MSN. I've run ad-aware, no spyware in my computer. I DO have Norton Antivirus 2005 with autoprotect enabled, and No viruses in my computer. I have all Microsoft updates installed. What is delaying my shutdown???

I know I can view the startup process with msconfig and change the process startup with services.msi , Could one of my services not be shuttingdown properly?

shut down Norton first and see if that is/was causing the delay.

Is it consistent as far as the delay?

Is there much disk activity?

Does it stick in explorer or at the "saving your settings" screen?

Without knowing anything else I'd watch task manager to see which processes are hanging up the longest. Check device manager to see if anything looks unhappy. Check for warnings or errors in event viewer.

ctrl+alt+del to see if any processes are "not responding" before you shut down. Then check out which processes are taking the most memory and CPU cycles.

Your computer might be clearing the pagefile everytime you restart/shutdown. Check to see if it is, and if so, disable that feature. That is something that dramatically increases the shutdown time.
