Whats the best way to connect pc to a lcd tv?
I will be buying an lcd tv pretty soon here and though I understand computers I have no idea about lcd tvs. I want an lcd tv so I can watch movies in high definition, have hd tv, and surf the internet in my living room. Sadly, there are not a lot of resources I have found that are recent enough to help me figure out the best way to buy a tv and set it up for these purposes. I have a decent computer with an Ati x850 XT PE video card that has two dvi outs. The tv I am looking at is a Sharp LC-32D40U with 2 hdmi inputs (no dvi), a s-video input,a resolution of 1366 x 768, and a response time of 6ms.
The questions I have are 1. can I just use a dvi to hdmi converter for my computer or should I be looking for a sharp with a dvi input instead? 2. is 1366 x 768 supported by most games and if not what resolution is optimal for this tv while in computer mode? 3. if I use my computer's dvd player to play dvds will it automatically be playing them in hd? I realize these might be real basic questions but I have read through a number of lcd reviews and home theatre tutorials and though they seem to hit these topics superficially they do not make things very clear (like the distinction between hdmi and dvi). As always I appreciate all the help I recieve here. Any additional info is also welcome. Thanks |

HDMI is DVI, just a different connector; you can get a DVI to HDMI cable. I run my HDTV with a DVI to HDMI cable.

I second Dilbert. My laptop has dvi and tv has hdmi. You aint going to get anything better than DVI - HDMI. I bought a monster DVI - HDMI Cable and it was worth ever penny.
