Winpopup on XP ?
i remember back in win98, a neat lil prog called winpopup that could be used to send messages over networks.
anything of it's equivalent in xp? |
there's a messaging service that gets run by (i believe) win 2000 and XP through which you can get lovely spam :) I suppose you could use it for its actual intended purposes, too... but i turned it off on my windows machine due to the spam messages i got when connected trhough dialup.

start -> run -> cmd
then type net send xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx your message where the x's are the IP |
Net send, what a wonderful thing, just don't spam the entire domain with rude comments like one laimer did where i used to work.................
|
yeah.. never spam the entire domain...
just pick the ip... say you want to send it to the ip 192.168.0.23... You do this by sending the message to the broadcast ip which sends it from there... e.g.: net send 192.168.0.255 message just replace the last digit with 255 /note I am joking.. don't do this. |
yea the Spam is an issue my roomate got OODles of popup form it in cluding one trying to sell you software to stop the pop ups. i thouhght that was grand

It shouldn't be a problem after that. |
just a note, in place of the ip, you could actually use the name of the computer as well
net send <computer name> <message> |
I was getting that pop up msg in XP. You have to go into Admin. Tools and disable some msg program. If you look around its pretty easy to find. and the problem is solved.
|
I would suggest using realpopup http://www.realpopup.it It works great as an alternative to winpopup. It does NOT use the windows messenger service (and will ask to disable it) so you don't have to worry about netsend among other things.
Hope this is what you are looking for. |
