Wireless Internet Help
I'm having a bit of trouble finding out whether or not I can do this.
Basically, I just have the one PC, but its miles away from the nearest phone point, so I have a 15m DSL cable running across my house. What I want to know is, can I have a wireless router at the phone point and a reciever at the PC, and connect to the internet that way? Without my PC being physically connected to the phone? All I've found out so far is that you need the router physically connected to a main PC, so another PC can be run wirelessly. My parents bought me a Linksys Home Gateway (WAG354G), would it be possible to do that with this? |
you need to set up the router by being physically connected to the PC by an ethernet cable, but once you've got the router running, you can disconnect the cable and go wireless. Don't know about the linksys, but my netgear router isn't physically connected to my laptop.

You need a wireless ethernet card in your computer. Connect a wireless access point to the router, or if your linksys is wireless use that. You really need broadband or it may not be worth all that trouble.

Ok, I configured the router to my ISP's settings, but I can't get it to connect to the net through it, physically or wirelessly.
The DSL, Wireless and Internet lights are all on, but I can't seem to get my connection software to use the wireless modem. How do I do that? I'm running XP btw. |
