Need help with incredibly slow loading times for webpages

Please help me. I went away for the weekend and when I came back suddenly I was having all these problems. I'm on dialup, I get home and connect to the internet and suddenly nothing happens. The connection is there but nothing will load up. I first noticed a problem when AIM said my buddy list could not be found. Then my home page sat for minutes without ever loading. I can't seem to fix it either. I'm on a different computer that is running a slower connection than mine and it is even working faster.

I spent 20 minutes with Earthlink's tech support last night and he had me clearing cache, restoring web settings, and nothing seems to work. I have tried everything to fix this, including trying diferent cables and phone lines to see if it was something external causing the problem.

The only other bit of information that I can give is that Internet Explorer is also taking an irregular amount of time to even open in the first place. But I've also tried using AOL Explorer and I still have the same problem. Everything was working fine when I left town on Friday (last time I had used the computer was Thursday night.) The computer also had not been touched from the time I left until the time I returned.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. This is really annoying me now. Thank you in advance.

What operating system are you running?

Have you tried running an antivirus scan and spyware scans in safe mode? (press f8 and select it from the boot menu)

If you need a spyware scanner, try downloading ad-aware or spybot on another computer and then installing it on your home computer.

I'm not sure, but I think AOL explorer and Internet explorer use many of the same resources, so one problem could be manifesting itself in both. You might try downloading an alternative browser like FireFox seeing if it's something wrong with the OS or the browser.

it sounds like ur computer is running slow and may have a virus or something on it(not positive of that), but the speed of opening ie shouldnt be affected by ur internet connection.

Try opening internet explorer in safe mode. If it pops right up, then you have something running in the background that's chewing on your resources. If you're running windows xp, you can use the configuration utility to stop programs from loading at startup, which may be contributing to your poor performance. What are your system specs?

do you know if the power went off while you were away . if yes hit f1 or del when you start up and checkbios that your cpu and ram are reading properly. me, i`ve had to do this several times,if you watch your post when you start up you should be able to tell if your cpu is running at its proper setting
