I just got hd hooked up with directv, no local in hd. Im running hdmi. All the hd channels come in great, but im trying to watch the football playoff game on my local with no hd.I got 2 gray sidebars on the sides of my tv cutting out the picture on both sides.Bummer! Any help to get rid of the gray sidebars? Im wondering if this is a tv or directv set-up prob? Thank you if you can help me.

What's the make and model of your tv and is it widescreen?

If it's a widescreen television and the broadcast is 4:3, the grey bars are just filler. Sometimes you can set it to stretch the image, but that'd be something to do with your set.

I have a Toshiba and on the remote there is a button that you can change the aspect ratio of whatever is on the tv. It comes in handy when playing regular xbox games on the 360 as they aren't in widescreen format and you have to chage it so you don't play games with a black border around it.

Edit: There is a View Mode button on your remote, the manual says that's the button you need to use. I have no idea, it was in the manual

I don't know how people can stand watching things in the wrong aspect ratio. It drives me crazy, yet practically every 16:9 TV in existence seems to spend most of its time showing squashed 4:3. I'll take the letterboxing any day.
