New Mouse, Logitech G7

I replaced my MX1000 cordless with a G7 cordless. I'm not so sure it was a good idea. I like the G7 a lot, but I don't think it was worth the money. Any thoughts?

how much did you spend? I'd have gotten the original laser mouse myself - bound to be cheaper than the G7, the resolution is plenty high, and my battery generally lasts 1.5 to 2 weeks before it needs charging.

I spent 80USD for the G7. My MX1000 has an internal rechargeable battery. The MX1000 was doing fine, but one thing I like a lot about the G7 is that it comes with two Li removeable batteries. One is in the mouse while the other is being charged in the cradle. Also, the 2.4GHz USB dongle can be moved to any computer, without the need of the cradle. I'm just not seeing a big improvement over the MX1000.

I bought a G7 last week to replace my MX 700. No real diff that I can tell. I like the convenience of swapping batteries as it's become quite finicky if not a real PITFnA to get it to charge properly in the cradle.

Yeah, both my MX 700 and MX 1000 developed cradle problems. Got to be very annoying. So the replaceable batteries are cool. I just hope it will be possible to buy replacements from Logitech.

First of all, cordless mice suck. So no, it wasn't worth the money. I got a G5 for XMas (basically a G7 with a cord) and wasn't a fan. It is definitely accurate as hell, but I don't particularly like the ergonomics of it, or the button set-up.

Hmm, I don't really get the real benefits of having the removable batteries..

I have the mx1000 and it lasts for quite a few days on one charge. When it starts to only show one led lit up, then I just put it in the cradle overnight.

I guess our preferences are just different though

Viper...you're lucky that it charges in the cradle easily for you...LOL. I have to fiddle (sometimes cram and fiddle when I lose patience...LOL) with it in the cradle to get the charging light flashing. Half the time when I walk away and come back, I see the red light flashing and have to fiddle with it again for it to charge. Even more frustrating when you put it in the cradle before you go to bed and in the morning the mouse is dead.

The swappable batteries on the G7 addresses the cradle charging problem. I just hope that no issues arise w/leaving the battery in the charger or another cradle charging issue. If that happens I'm going to smash both mice and cradles and send it back to Logitech with a pic of my one finger salute...LOL.

oh, I get what you mean now!

I haven't ran into any problems with the charging for my mouse. Just place it into the cradle and it charges fine.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck though.

My mx1000 goes for about 2 weeks between charges, and I think I use a couple of hours a day! I also haven't had any cradle problems yet...

I would like the option to just have a dongle though - for when I take the laptop on the go.

In all probability, the upgrade to the G7 probably from an MX1000 wouldn't be noticable to the average user. I've had mine since about a month after they were released and love it, although it does pain me that I spent $80 US on mine and you can get them for $40 now. I can usually get a week out of a full charge. But I do alot of gaming with it for extended periods of time, so my experience with time between charges may be different than those of others.

I've given up trying to recharge the batteries in my MX700 from the cradle. The tapping while in the cradle turned to slamming it down into the cradle. Wetting the contacts spit worked for a short while. Finally, just pulling the batteries out to charge them in a reall wall charger and swapping with a freshly charged set.
So to answer your question the replaceable battery seems like a good idea. Worth $80...the satisfaction of quality last long after the high price is forgotten.

Well said cJoe. I agree. I really like the G7 mouse. I swap the battery every day or so.

Why buy a G7 if you already had a MX1000? There is almost no difference. I got a G7 after using a Intellimouse 3.0 for 4 years. Most of the paint was worn off my fire button (LMB). The wireless is a huge upgrade, and its nice that they finally make wireless mice that are as fast as wired mice. The single thumb button is awesome, and the DPI on the fly switching is awesome for games like BF2. Its also really handy for photoshop.
