Adjusting the width of the forum

Is there any way for a user to adjust the width of the forum on his or her display? I have a widescreen monitor and there's an awful lot of dead space on the sides when I view TFP.

Thanks!

Might a bookmarklet help? (Column Width Bookmarklet)

Cynthetiq 06-24-2008 08:34 AM

which theme are you using?

the TFP green has a floating width as does Insignia and I-bulletin

allaboutmusic 06-24-2008 08:36 AM

Redlemon, I think that does the opposite by narrowing down wide pages.

How wide? My monitor is 1920x1200 and I have very little dead space at the sides on TFP.

I'm using fromBasics Dark.

Cynthetiq 06-24-2008 08:41 AM

yep that's a fixed width style...no chance of modifying it.

I'd change, but my experience at TFP is tied up with the theme somehow. The other themes just don't seem right.

ubertuber 06-24-2008 01:44 PM

Sapiens, I'm right there with you.

I've got mixed feelings though -- fromBasics has a great, strong visual taste, but I freaking hate the scroll bars when people drop large pictures in threads.

Cynthetiq 06-24-2008 02:19 PM

okay... tell me how that is...

a little template digging and modifying...

next thing I'm going to hear is that XYZ is complaining that it's now too fat....

well damn.. mabye I'll keep it for myself like this.

Frosstbyte 06-24-2008 02:23 PM

NOW IT'S TOO FAT! I'm freaking out here, Cynth. My precious TFP looks different now! Stupid locked template widths.

Destrox 06-24-2008 02:24 PM

wooow Dark just got a bit chubby :P hehe

I dont mind the wide part, while the proper method would be to use set percentage of screen space on the borders. 15% | 70% | 15% etc

But in the end I dont really care as long as the forum load.

sapiens 06-24-2008 02:27 PM

Thanks, I like it a lot better, but that's just me. I don't want to push a theme change on anyone who was perfectly satisfied with the way it was.

xepherys 06-24-2008 02:42 PM

fromBasics Dark - format change?

What happened to the style "fromBasics Dark"? Until an hour or so ago, it was NOT a full page layout. Now it is (and it makes me sad).

sapiens 06-24-2008 02:43 PM

Blame Cynthetiq, It's his fault! (I'm kidding. I like it)

I personally liked my sexy, slender TFP.

Cynthetiq 06-24-2008 02:46 PM

okay... it's now fixed and floating...

those that want fixed... do nothing

those that want floating... choose the WIDE version.

sorry guys... needed some time to look at the template code and figure out what I needed to change and what I needed to do to make another copy of this template.

Bear Cub 06-24-2008 02:51 PM

Well done, sir. Well done.

sapiens 06-24-2008 02:51 PM

Behold the power of Cynthetiq (and no threats of splitting babies in half were required!) . Thank you.

Cynthetiq 06-24-2008 03:06 PM

glad i can do something that makes your visit here a little bit simpler.

noodle 06-24-2008 04:02 PM

seriously, i thought i was losing it for about an hour when my tfp was tooooo wide.
nice to know it wasn't in my head.
this time.

Frosstbyte 06-24-2008 05:34 PM

Man, that guy is PRO. I wish I were as cool as him. Thanks cyn!

ubertuber 06-24-2008 10:05 PM

Wow -- there are more people using BasicsDark than I realized!

Nice work Cynthetiq!
