Maurice Clarett released by the Broncos

Is anyone surprised by this?

Does is screw up your contingency choosing of him?Did anyone have him on their team?

laconic1 08-28-2005 04:12 PM

Can't say that I am surprised. Ron Dayne is having a solid camp, and the Broncos already have a deep backfield.

From what I heard, he killed himself with the contract he took. He passed up his signing bonus in favor of an incentive heavy contract, so it didn't hurt them any to release him. Best not to be an ass towards your team and your coach if it doesn't hurt them any to dump you.

Spartak 08-28-2005 05:47 PM

How was he an ass to the coach exactly?

If anything he was unlucky because he hurt his foot. If this had been any other team they would have kept their third rounder.

I aslo read that once he clears the 24 hr waiver (so other teams don't hafta pick up the current contract) that a few teams might look real hard at him. I still think he could be a good NFLer, but what do I know?

From what I had heard, he walked into his office and started complaining that he should be the starting running back and he wasn't getting enough reps, etc. For a guy taken when he was and with as much controversy surrounding him, that probably wasn't the best move.

Somehow "I told you so" doesn't even begin to describe it. Its not so bad that they drafted him, but the fact that they spend a 4th rounder on him. Even if he does end up being a serviceable NFL back, it won't be for the Broncos.

paddyjoe 08-29-2005 09:47 AM

they should post this dumb ass' picture in every college locker room.

thatoneguy 08-29-2005 10:36 AM

Yeah, I think I agree with the general sentiment in the thread... I don't really feel sorry for the guy. Sure, he got hurt in camp or whatever, and that hurt his chances. But, it's his fault and his attitude that got him into the situation in the first place.

If he can get himself together and stop being a "me first" guy, then maybe he will have a chance to work his way up in the NFL again, but if not... I don't see it happening.

Kubz18 09-01-2005 02:31 AM

Still he WILL end up on someones roster making minium salary only because that teams have nothing to lose picking him up, he doesnt pan out, oh well, your out what 200k or so

BUT if he finds the right mix with a certin team and certin coach and just ended up making an impact that team will be highly praised....

its a minimal risk/potential great reward situation

i think maybe halfway through the year he(clarett) will realize that he might only be a special teamer or 3rd string for at least the first year or 2, once he gets that into his head he might make it on a team...maybe

but i have some doubt

Does the soap opera that is Maurice Clarrett really surprise anyone?

He hasn't played in how long? And you think he'll be a great back or even serviceable to anyone?

Hell, if he can't make it in Denver where they can make any average or even subpar back a star (Droughns is an example) with their system, then how can anyone believe this guy will make it anywhere?

Two words.

Drew Henson.

If a player shows dominance at the major-college level, especially on the kind of stage Clarett did, they will have as many chances as they need to prove they can't play. No matter how long they are out.

And to be fair, injury is what did him in at Denver, not skill.
