snowboard?

I was wondering where people ski or snowboard, what is your favorite mountain to shred? My favorite place of all time is Mt. Baker in Washington state. This place is BADASS! I think they still have the most recorded snowfall in North America...somewhere around 1200 inches! That is insane! I've been all across America snowboarding at some sick spots, but Baker is where it's at for me...check the pic....That is Mt. Shuksan, which is just to the left of Mt.Baker ski area... Insane backcountry...year around too.http://www.mtbaker.us/gallery_media/...ornice_jpg.jpg

i just started snowboarding a year ago, and i've only been to Timberline, Meadows, and Hoodoo here in Oregon. one of these years though, i want to go on a snowboarding spree to all the awesome places.

GuttersnipeXL 04-20-2003 06:48 PM

Dude if your in Oregon do yourself a HUGE favor and head up to Baker for a weekend...I swear to you, you won't regret it!

Great Scott 04-22-2003 12:56 AM

Crud that looks like a good slope! I have gone a few times myself but I wouldn't call myself an expert or anything. I have really been into snowblading lately. You guys try that? Great speed and control.

Baker is a great mountain. I haven't boarded there for about 3 years now, but I did climb to the peak last fall (10,800 ft.). My favourite place is definately Whistler. I just spent 2 days boarding there this last weekend and the conditions are still quite good. Can't go wrong with 400+ runs and over 7000 acres of terrain.

I've also got into backcountry boarding during the last couple years. Nothing beats untracked earned turns!

matteo101 04-23-2003 10:27 AM

I definetly snowboard...ive been doing it for about four years..Its so much fun. I enjoy the adrenalin rush, and just the sheer freedom...anyone who is thinking about trying it try it!...but dont be disapointed if you are horrible your first time..Once you get it, its amazing!

GuttersnipeXL 04-23-2003 01:08 PM

Yeah to add to what matteo101 said...Also don't be surprised if you feel like you got ran over the day after you go. Even people who are totally in shape feel it. You just use different muscles.
Another awesome place to go for all you easties...Killington. I didn't get to make it this year, but it is one of the best places on the east....along with, Jay Peak, Stowe, Stratton.....and for all you backcountry people, Tuckermans Ravine at Mt. Washington is nuts!

I am a skiier.

I liked Baker when I was there. It was the heaviest snow I have ever been on, but super good anyway. The main thing that I noticed was that if you were not careful, you might just ski off a cliff.

Now as far as favorite mountatain? I have a love affair with Mammoth. I just bought my 2003-2004 season pass which represts my 4th consective year of being a season pass holder.

I f anyone rides Mammoth, let me know and we can go take some turns.

As far as the east coast skiing that Guttersnipe was mentioning, I am too far into this thread to hit my back button, so I will attempt to keep this nice. I grew up there and it is just not the same. I hate Killington with all the pushing and traverisng and ice on all the steeps. No fun. The whole mountain may as well be Bear Mountain since it is the only thing that is really skiable.

Easy on the East man...I know its not the same as the West by any means, but there are good places to go...If you can learn how to ride in the East, you can ride anywhere...Riding on ice has its merits ya know! :Þ

Mondak 04-26-2003 02:13 PM

I disagree about that whole "if you can ski the east, you can ski anything" theory. I learned to ski in the east and had to re-learn to ski when I got out here. Since there is just not the steep stuff or the wide opne runs, you develop bad habits that can get you by in the east, but turn to poop on a Powder day.

hellasnow 07-23-2003 02:26 PM

i agree with mondak:

east isn't like the west....come out west you have to learn to ride/ski a Mountain not a hill. out here you have to hold alot of respect for the mountain or it will fuck you real quick.

ice....we have ice in the west too...wish we didn't but yes it does happen. specially the places all the Gappers like to go ski off all the snow then what do u have ICE.

not tryn' to sound pissy but the whole "if you can ski the east, you can ski anything" doesn't work for me for 1 second.

I've been snowboarding for 5 or 6 years now.
And my dad has been for a couple now too, which is super cool.

Mondak 07-27-2003 10:27 AM

I'll tell you one thing, I am ready to getback out there.

I've been skiing since I was 5 and snowboarding for the past 5 years. My favorite resort is Beaver Creek, but I'm also a native, and grew up skiing that mountain and know the best trails to hit at certain times of the day to get the best snow condition and fewest people. I've really only snowboarded Colorado Resorts and a couple Utah resorts. I've been wanting to go to Whistler for a long time though, and experience that.

I'm not a terrain park junkie, personally I'm still an arm twirler while sailing through the air, but I LOVE steep backcountry powder!!! *drool* Or the lovely deep tree trails.

Caser 07-28-2003 08:50 AM

everytime i try to snowboard i fall and it sucks alot

pkeigs 07-28-2003 01:25 PM

Winter Park in Colorado is my favorite resort. When Colorado had the big blizzard they got 6 feet in 24 hours. Unfortunently the pass to get up to it was closed. Have been a season pass owner for 4 years and get up about 20 days a season. Not as much as i like but I am going to school in steamboat next year so its all good.

Washington state has some great terrain. Crystal MOuntain is great as well, bbut baker does take it for washington. I hit Mt. Hood ast year for the first time and that was pretty sweet too. 15 foot elevation drops soooooooo nice !!

Mango 07-29-2003 11:54 AM

Red Mountain B.C. is pretty sweet. I've skied all over B.C. and a few places in the US. One of my other favorite hills is Alta. They get some sick light snow and lots of it.

GuttersnipeXL 07-31-2003 08:10 PM

Uggh...snowboard thread is making me itchy...it's 90 degrees out right now and not a drop of white shit around except for on my old ladies back. Crap I wanna ride, summertime gets me down sometimes. This will be my 14th season this year...I think I'm finally gettin' the hang of it!

Cozmo 08-01-2003 02:38 PM

Mondak is right about Mammoth. You gotta take Climax and then you are smitten. Anyone in the LA area need to carpool to Mammoth this fall, send me a note.

CAN_skate 08-02-2003 05:00 AM

pkeigs 08-03-2003 10:32 PM
