Afuckingmen.
Although to be perfectly honest, I didn't miss it too much. |
Haven't even noticed it was gone, although now that the Memorial Cup is done, I miss junior hockey
|
The article doesn't sound too promising, but at least they seem to be near agreeing on SOMETHING, which is a nice change of pace.
|
BOOOOOOOOO!
Just kidding, I love hockey. Just kidding. ;) |
Cmon Hockey, let's play! Just wasn't the same without it.
|
I have not been following the negotiations much, but the limit (34-36M) is much lower than I expected. I thought the owners were offering much more before the season was canned.
|
Time for more people to be like "I hate hockey anyway, didn't miss it at all"
Stay out of the thread Back on topic: I'm going to be happy when the deal is inked, because I seriously missed hockey. I was totally lost without my Canucks and Habs (yes... I'm a glutton for punishment) |

Encouraging news, the cap was the stumbling block in the midnight oil negotiations before they cancelled the season.
With this out of the way, everything else is a formality, and hopefully we get a season starting on time :D |

Canucks and Les Hads? man o man you are a glutton for sure! but you would be even more of a glutton if you were a Sens fan... let's hope that the season starts with apology ticket prices. And with a shootout to end O/T ties during the regular season, keeping sudden death in playoffs, and no changes to the style of uniforms. |
Thank the lord almighty, hell has frozen over. They agreed on something. Hopefully this will be the start of getting a contract that will last till the day I die.
:( I miss l'hockey |
If you are a glutton for punishment as a Habs, Canucks or Sens fan then you must be legally insane if you are a Leafs fan.
I am OK with alot of the changes they are thinking about. I don't know about the widening of the nets. But I think another real importan change should be the elimination of any points for not winning. Only winners should get points. Ties and Overtime loosers should not get any points. It is just stupid. No really, it just promotes more effort for trying to win the game. |
It's nice to see hockey doing the right thing within a matter of day:
1) agreeing on a salary cap 2) putting one of the greatest right wingers in the hall: Cam Neely |

Go Leafs! I mean who else is there? (and I do have a flames car flag that I sported around town last spring - but the emotional committment just wasn't the same). The last thing they should do is widen the nets. I've seen some of the designs. and they are god-awful. fixing the goalie equipment should be sufficient. Bring it back to mid-'80's style or something. But i do like the point for OT losers. |
WOOOHOOOO!

Here's one of my favorite pics of Cam's first game back against Ulfie and Cam ambushing him. Cam beat the crap out of him before the refs jumped in. http://bostondirtdogs.boston.com/Hea...es/cam_ulf.jpg |
Thank god..I missed you so much hockey
|
Wooo, I can't wait to see the Canucks get knocked out in the first round again. ;) Er, I hope I didn't jinx it...

NHL may be in trouble even with apology-level ticket prices. How many people failed to renew their season tickets because of the strike? How low for how long before they can fully recover? No independent sports league in recent memory has successfully recovered from the loss of an entire season, but then none were the pinnacle of play at the time either: USFL of the 1980s and World Football League of the 1970s. (The World League of American Football/NFL Europe survived losing the 1993 season, but they were and still are propped up by the NFL.) Baseball took 4 years to recover from the 1994 World Series That Never Was. ESPN and FOX Sports Networks regularly recorded almost the same ratings from poker than they would have received from hockey, and poker costs a whole lot less to produce; the next NHL TV contract will likely be LESS than the current one and have strike provisions included. Maybe hockey can survive the lead poisioning from shooting itself in the foot to spite its union. We'll all see in the coming seasons. |
The whole thing is depressing, but I'd at least like to see them play and not worry about for how long or if it is popular and successful.
|
I'm pissed about everything this has to do with in general. Money money money. Dammit. I don't even know if I want to go to any hockey games anymore, and that's a big thing for me.

If the NHL sickens you, I would go to a high school game or even a junior game. Hockey is still a great sport; it's just the NHL that sucks ass, right now. |
I kind of missed watching the Bruins all winter, but watching my team make it to the Frozen Four this year was also nice.
|
I had a bit of a giggle at Roenick's expense today, saying that the players should have accepted the NHL's deal that was offered in February.
Well no kidding... |
