Phil Jackson vs Red Auerbach
LINKY
A little section from the link. Quote:
  Go Phil! Red is a complete dumbass. Does he really think that he'd have all the titles that he has if he had to deal with todays NBA with free agents? I hope someone finds him an oxygen tube soon. |
LMAO at Jackson's comment. From what I have read in interviews and seen on TV, these guys genuinely despise each other. I would say it is a little bit of jealousy on Red's part because Jackson is making a run at his claim to being the best coach of all time. That said, Red is still right. I want to see Jackson inherit a mediocre team and mold them into a playoff/championship team. Any good coach could win 9 NBA Titles if they could coach MJ or Kobe and Shaq in their prime.

fearofmear, not so... remember... Del Harris never won shit with the Lakers, and MJ never won a championship before Phil came along.
|
you gotta give credit where credit is due, and phil jackson clearly deserves it!

Phil took a mediocre 47-35 Bulls team from the season before he took over, and turned them into NBA champs in two years. The Lakers were a tulmutuous 31-19 in '99 and were three time champs after that. I don't know how he does it because it is weird as hell how he coaches, but it works. It is kind of messed up how him and Red diss each other, because both are among the greatest, probably the two greatest head coaches ever.
|
good point, but the Bulls did get more help than just Phil. The Pistons I believe had been beating the bulls every year till then. And a while after Jackson arrived the Pistons star player retired. As for the Lakers Phil did a hell of a lot for that team. Was Phil the coach the year L.A. got sweept by the Jazz? I just wonder what Reds gonna say once he loses his spot at the top...

These two make each other look bad - they come off as sniveling whiners.
But all Red said was that three doesn't constitute a dynasty. And i think he's right. Jackson's Bulls were a dynasty. But not the Lakers of Phil Jackson. Great players make great coaches. You can't teach some things. But both men had exceptional stars. Simply, each is the greatest of his time. They don't need to be ranked. |
The Lakers, love em or hate em, are a dynasty. The book on the Kobe-Shaq Lakers isn't finished yet either. They could easily win another 2 or 3 championships if they get the right people to replace some of the supporting cast.
|
If I was going to break it down the Lakers are a dynasty, but not just because of Shaq and Kobe, but because of all of the players before them as well. Shaq and Kobe just add another chapter to the book for me.

Nobody can take anything away from Red's Celtics. It's one of the greatest dynasties of all-time (cue the UCLA fans)...and nobody should take anything away from Phil's success. In this day of free agents, salary caps and extra teams and round of the playoffs, his titles are amazing.
Why should Red be the least bit bothered by Jackson? Except for being generally cranky. The Celtics were great, Red....relax. Has anyone touched Jackson's success during the last 30 years? No. You're great, Phil....relax. Meet out on the playground and settle things like the children you are. A true champion doesn't need to tear down someone else to build themselves up. Now, if you want to talk champions, there's always Kevin Loughery.... |
