Rick Brunson

Has anyone been signed and/or played for more NBA teams than Rick Brunson? Here's his history as a journeyman:

Signed by Orlando Magic but did not play for them - 1 team
Signed by New York Knicks but did not play for them - 2 teams
Signed by Portland Trail Blazers - 3 teams
Signed by New York Knicks - Repeat; 3 teams
Signed by Miami Heat but did not play for them - 4 teams
Signed by Boston Celtics - 5 teams
Signed by New York Knicks - Repeat; 5 teams
Signed by Portland Trail Blazers - Repeat; 5 teams
Signed by Chicago Bulls - 6 teams
Signed by Toronto Raptors - 7 teams
Traded to Chicago Bulls - Repeat; 7 teams
Signed by Los Angeles Clippers - 8 teams

So, he has played for a total of eight different teams, and has switched teams 11 times in eight seasons. There used to be a site (http://www.rickbrunson.com) that parodied his tenure in the NBA before it got scared off the net by legal threats by the Chicago Bulls' lawyers. I think there's a cache of it somewhere, but where; I'm not sure.

I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure Tony Massenburg (who once destroyed my high school team) has played for something like 6,000 teams.

Whoa, here we go:

Selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round (43rd pick overall) of the 1990 NBA Draft. Waived by the Spurs on 12/2/91.

Played in Italy in 1991-92.

Signed as a free agent by the Charlotte Hornets on 12/11/91. Waived by the Hornets on 1/7/92.

Signed to the first of two consecutive 10-day contracts by the Boston Celtics on 1/10/92.

Signed to the first of two consecutive 10-day contracts by the Golden State Warriors on 2/13/92.

Played in Spain in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

Signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Clippers on 6/29/94.

Selected by the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Expansion Draft on 6/24/95.

Traded by the Raptors to the Philadelphia 76ers on 2/22/96.

Signed as a free agent by the New Jersey Nets on 9/10/96.

Signed as a free agent by the Boston Celtics on 7/28/97.

Traded by the Celtics with a future second round draft choice to the Vancouver Grizzlies on 10/28/97.

Traded by the Grizzlies to the Houston Rockets on 8/27/99.

Signed as a free agent by the Grizzlies on 8/3/00.

Signed as a free agent by the Utah Jazz on 12/15/03.

By my count, 13 teams (with 2 stops in Boston and Vancouver/Memphis)

For Massenburg:

Add Sacramento in 03-04
back to San Antonio in 04-05 (this season)

He sure was a helluva player for Salem high school. Although Scoonie Penn might have been better.

Well counting only NBA teams, Massenburg beat Brunson by two for the amount of teams played for, while he beat Brunson by one in how many times he has switched teams.

But, you have to factor in that Massenburg has been playing since the 90-91 season, while Rick Brunson has only played since the 97-98 season. That's 13 seasons v. 8 seasons. If Rick Brunson switches teams each year until he reaches 13 seasons, he could very well beat Tony Massenburg's 'prestigious' record.

Chucky Brown - 12 Teams, 14 team switches in 12 seasons.
Tony Massenburg - 13 Teams, 12 team switches in 13 seasons and counting.
Rick Brunson - 11 Teams, 11 team switches in 8 seasons and counting.

I'm sorry, but I think that when it's all said and done, as long as he stays healthy, Rick Brunson is gonna take the cake in this category.
