All modern sports awards were named after legends of the past. Cy Young, Vince Lombardi, John William Heisman, Federick Authur Stanley, John Wooden, to name a few.

Their life achievements were unparalleled and the named awards rightfully reserved their names in sports history. There are quite a few currently active or recently (past decade or so) retired athletes I think should have some sort of award named after them.

Wayne Gretzky for one, I don't think many of his records can be broken again, not with today's league structures. Barry Bonds, he should take over the homerun king title in the next 2~3 years, unless he quits the game. Lance Armstrong, winning 6 consecutive Tour de France crowns, he isn't done yet!

Wouldn't you agree that these great athletes should have an award named after them?
