Will ND football ever return to glory?

When I was a kid watching a ND football game was just as good as going to church. I even read the Frank Leahy story and hated USC with a passion.

Do you think ND will ever return to glory? Is it a matter of their higher admission standards like Stanford or are today's athletes not into going to a religious school. Or did coach Davies run ND football under and it's going to take the new coach a few more years to get the team up and running.

Personally I'd like to give coach willingham a year or two more until his recruits are juniors before I pass judgement.

I miss the days of classic ND/Michigan; ND/Florida State; ND/USC games. What's it going to take to return ND football to where it belongs.

PS: I also grew up liking UCLA and FSU go figure.

Just to seasons ago they almost made a BCS bowl... last season was just a bad one. They will be back in top shape in a couple of years... even though they will have to join a conference soon

Notre Dame could return to the Bowl Picture, but I doubt that they will ever return to the prominence of their past. Today's athletes have so many options now. There was a time when a H.S. student probably knew of a handful of schools....whatever was close to their house---and Notre Dame. Now, a kid from Jersey can play for USC....a kid from Oregon can go to Oklahoma. Of course there were times when that happened in the past, but it was the exception rather than the rule.

I don't think Coach Davey had as much to do with Notre Dame's downfall as he gets blamed. It's tough to coach in the shadow of 2 of the all-time greats like Rockne and Frank Leahy. Gerry Faust had a better than .500 record in his time and he was viewed as one of the biggest busts by ESPN.

feh! I cant stand Notre Dame, so if they never return to prominence in my lifetime, I wont be too upset about it. ND has always been WAY overrated, IMHO.
