Sad... He's such a great hockey player that made a terrible mistake... Not even the Snyder family wants this...

I support you Danny

Hurm i thought if they were going to indict him, they had to do it awhile ago? Anyway, they must have a pretty strong case against him if they think they are going to do anything..

Good. It's about damn time.

I'm sick and tired of people treating him like he's some sort of victim in this whole thing. Everybody keeps focussing on the plight of poor, poor Dan, and all the anguish he has to go through, then they treat him like some sort of hero for living through his turmoil. I can remember when Heatley started skating again, and all the highlight reels focused on Dan Heatley for about a week. Dan Heatley dresses up. Dan Heatly skates on the ice. Dan Heatley takes a shot on net. Dan Heatley's unimportant teammate scores a goal, and Dan Heatley nods his approval. We love you Dan!

The man drove his $400,000 Ferrari at speeds of 100-140 kph in a 50 kph zone. That's not just fast, it's reckless. He inevitably ends up slamming his car into a brick wall, and in the process, kills his friend in the passenger seat. He wasn't being chased, he wasn't rushing to the hospital, no one held a gun to his head and forced him to drive recklessly. I know this is a tired old line, but if he were anyone else, people wouldn't think twice because he was charged with with vehicular manslaughter. Why should he be absolved of any responsibility, or treated any differently just because he's a really good hockey player?

And I couldn't stand listening to Heatley's lawyer. His biggest complaint was that these charges were going to ruin Heatley's life. Boo-hoo. It made me sick listening to that crap.

[edit:] And for the record, that bastard got real lucky. Even after charges were laid, Snyder's family still supported him. It's not every day you can kill someone's son, and be forgiven by his parents like that.

This is terrible, the man made a mistake, yes it was a very costly mistake but a mistake none the less. The Snyder family doesn't even want this to happen and they have forgiven Mr. Heatly for his bad judgement.

The "bastard" got real lucky, how? Oh you mean the fact that Mr. Snyders parents are adult enough and realise Mr. Heatly never intended to kill their son, and they have forgiven him and supported him throughout. I have no comment on the vast majority of your post because there is no point

Dude got lucky, because the Snyder family could have easily sued him for wrongful death. Instead, they looked past that and forgave him. Things could have been a whole lot worse for him.

I still don't feel sorry for the guy. The guy I really feel sorry for is Dan Snyder. I see more coverage on Dan Heately's anguish than I do on Dan Snyder's death. If anyone mentions Dan Snyder's death, it's as a footnote when they're talking about Dan Heatley. So many people seem to wish the authorities would just forget about that little accident, and let Heatley go on with his life.

He killed a man. If this guy were some schmuck off the street, no one would be saying how much they support him, or trying to justify his actions by stating how he "just made a mistake". I don't see any reason why Heatley should be treated any different than the common man.

Actually... His friends and family would be supporting the schmuck.... Have YOU ever had something like this happen? It's tough to deal with, and you support the people in any way possible.

If you say "Yes, I have, and I totally shunned the person because he's a moron, even though I care about him" I'm going to lose a lot of respect.

Danny just has a lot of people who care, as opposed to the average person.

I was waiting for that. The "Hypothetical Question" followed by the "Cut 'Em Off at the Pass".

I've never had to go through this, thank God. If it did happen to a friend of mine, depending on what kind of friend he is, I'd be there for him. I can respect his family and friends being so supportive, which is why I say he is so lucky.

What I can't stand is all this hero worshipping given out by people who have never met the man, and only 'care' about him because of what a great hockey player he is. This wasn't just a traffic accident. He wasn't run off the road by some drunk moron, or slipped on an oil patch. The only thing that is questionable is whether his Ferrari had any structural defects (as Ferraris are notorious for).

But, as I see it, he pressed that pedal to the floor, misjudged his driving abilities, and ended up killing his friend in the process. For that, I think he deserves some scorn. The notion that he should be put on a pedestal, and praised for his valiant coping makes me angry.

So, I thought about this by the time I hit the freezer section in the grocery store (yes, I was dwelling on this). If Dan Heatley's friends and family can look past the crash, and support him, then why is it so wrong if total strangers do the same?

I still think the guy deserves to be charged and prosecuted, since it was him at the wheel, but if people forgive him for that, then that's cool.
