Is Lacrosse a bad sport?
Hey.
In high school I used to play lacrosse... I wasn't too good at it, but it was for the fun of it. I don't play it anymore because... I'm kinda too busy doing other stuff, and more importantly: no one plays it. Lacrosse games are either: a) Never played on TV, or b) if played, it would be around 2~5am. Is Lacrosse that unpopular? I mean its kinda a not too original of a sport, but whats so different about it then watching football or soccer? |
Hey, you live in Jersey. It shouldn't be too hard to find a game on somewhere during the spring.
Then again, I live in the epicenter of lacrosse in America: Baltimore, MD. It isn't that it is unpopular, just that it isn't popular ENOUGH. It's growing by the year, though. Its biggest problem is that it is seen as a rich-kid's sport, due to who tends to play it, plus the expense of the equipment needed. |
Heck, I wish shooting was as cheap as lacrosse :-D
I dont think its a bad sport, but I rarely see anything other than major rivalry/championship games on once in a while |
The only real coverage nation wide is during the NCAA championships. Other than that, it's not around, unless you are on the East Coast. The sport is slowly spreading westward, but it will take some time to catch on. I personally like it, it's like hockey, minus the skates/fights.

I live in Florida and it isn't very popular down here. I do like to watch it and have seen semi-pro or pro (not sure which) on ESPN before. I wish I grew up up North, would loved to have given it a shot.

I play way over here in Oregon and in the past few years it has grow like wildfire. In the past 5 years my high-school area has gone from 4 to around 20 teams JV and Varsity. Now I play in college and most major universities in the area have a club team. It is becoming more and more popular through out the US. The girls team here just became a sport rather than a club over crew and a few other sprots, which is a good step towards a sport for the guys. Hopefully it will continue to grow.

It's growing like crazy in the Chicagoland area too. Both of my boys play it and I've picked it up too. It's a fun sport to play. My daughter is taking it up too, but, she'd rather play the boys' game (full contact). It's still a club sport for the most part around here but that's okay because if you pay, you play, no cuts. They're also planning on introducing the sport in the middle schools in the town I live in.
The only time I've seen it on TV is during the NCAA championships. CSTV (College Sports TV) reruns games from time to time. |
It's on up here in Canada with some frequency, the lower levels usually show up on the local channels, while the bigger stuff can show up on the larger sports channels (tsn and the various sportsnet flavors)
