What is the best NCAA conference today? Not just in football and men's basketball.
The answer is definetly The Big East: The Big East has won the NCAA men's basketball Championship (Syracuse), The Men's NIT championship (St.John's), The Women's NCAA basketball championship (UCONN) and The Big East got second place this year and won the NCAA football Champioship in 2002 (Miami). The most amzing thing about this is that alkl of these teams are different colleges The Big East doesn't have a Texas or a Florida who rules the conference.
What Conference can beat that?

the big bad 12.
in football, we have colorado, nebraska, kansas state, oklahoma, texas, texas a&m. - all of them football power houses. and we had 9 bowl eligible teams (a&m got invited, but didnt go) 9/12 bowl eligible teams = pretty damn good! in basketball, we have kansas, mizzou, oklahoma, texas - the traditional power houses. + we had other good teams that were ranked during the season. women's basketball, i give it all to uconn, although texas and kansas state are pretty good. baseball - now we're talking! defending national champs in texas! here are the ranked big 12 teams. 4. NEBRASKA 6. TEXAS 12. TEXAS A&M 23. BAYLOR and oklahoma state was ranked in the other poll. + there are other sports that the big 12 is great at. just watch out for 'em this yr!

All-time, it is without a doubt the PAC-10
Hasn't the PAC-10 won the most NCAA titles in all sports? I don't have the exact numbers by conference. But here's the top ten all-time NCAA championship list through Fall 2002(this does not include Division I-A football because there is no official title recognized by the NCAA): #1 UCLA: 87 #2 Stanford: 85 #3 Southern California: 79 #4 Oklahoma State: 43 #5 Arkansas: 37 #6 LSU: 36 Texas: 36 #8 Michigan: 31 #9 North Carolina: 29 Penn State: 29 That being said, the PAC-10 is probably not the best right at this moment. I think it is very hard to say. The Big East seems solid, though the Big-12 and SEC are probably much deeper.

Funny how you all forget the Big 10.
Minnesota and Michigan in the Frozen 4 with Minny winning for the 2nd straight year. I hate saying this but who won the NCAA Football championship last year? Ohio State They were a little weak in BB cut they did alright in the tournament. The only problem with all those championships that the PAC-10 has is that most of them are for like volleyball and other beach sports.. ![]() Art |

Artermis took the words right out of my mouth about the Pac-10. Every once in a while they get a nice run of teams in basketball, but can someone team those sunsoaked knuckleheads to play any kind of defense in football? Pas-10 does win at swimming and discus throwing though, and they get credit there.
To me, the best conference must be perennial powerhouses in all three sports that make a buck: baseball, basketball, football. Using those three criteria, The Dude, most unfortunately, is correct. And the capper is baseball. Noone else in the country can touch Big12 baseball. Number two conference: Big Ten. Jmf1234, I gotta see the Big East get stronger across the board. In other words, someone else needs to learn how to play football other than Miami and Pitt (and don't give me Syracuse, etc. They stink for three years than pull one out of nowhere). Someone else needs to learn to play Womens Basketball, etc. The foundation IS there, but if I have to hear how great Miami of Florida is for beating the crap out of Rutgers one more time... This is the arguement that never ends, cause there is no real answer. And the conferences have up and down years, cyclical. Finally, the Big East and Big Ten, and basically all northern major conferences will never play the level of baseball played by Southern conferences. And Texas will never win the Frozen Four. So, its regional too. |

This is almost terrifying - agreeing with the Dude - Nothing else is even close to the Big 12 this year and will not be next year. If 10 of the Big 12 schools had not had to play each other they would have been undefeated.
"To me, the best conference must be perennial powerhouses in all three sports that make a buck: baseball, basketball, football." Go beyond that - add women's sports - add wrestling, golf, gymnastics - The Big 12 kicks ass!

Are you guys joking, most of the Pac-10 is for volleyball and other beach sports? That right there gives away your ignorance. Don't you morons know that UCLA has the most championships in basketball. In football, the last 20 years, only six other school teams have won more bowl games than UCLA. "UCLA became the first school in history to win NCAA titles in eight different men’s sports when the soccer team won the 1985 championship." And that's just UCLA, that doesn't include USC, Stanford, and all the other great programs who've had great years.

The Big 12 is friggin solid, but you need to win the championships to be remembered.
That being said, you can't give the Big East points for winning the NIT. "We have the best mediocre team in the country!" Women's basketball also unimportant. Basketball: Big East Football: Big Ten Hockey: Big Ten Baseball: Not over yet. Tennis: Big Ten |

Man, I hate to agree with a t-sippers, but The Dude got it right with Big 12. The stats speak for themselves.
There may be several schools that win more than any single Big 12 school, but no conference has more schools that win as often. Not since the Big 12 was formed in '94 anyway.

Watch out Big East we have a rival! Football shouldnt count it was clearly, and it should have been, a pass interference. And good luck with hoping that the big 10 wins the baseball championship.
