Miami
So... do the Canes get any respect in this forum yet?
Big win today at FSU. Go Texas. |
I don't think that anyone that discounts a team with an undefeated record is worth listening to. I don't see where Miami is disrespected on this board.
Anyhow, the big game is with Virginia Tech. They are real good. Today, Miami turned the ball over a half dozen times, and took advantage of Chris Rix. Chris Rix is not a big-time college football quarterback. I do give Miami alot of credit for taking care of some of the issues they had in run defense - by stopping all three of FSU's backs they made Chris Rix beat them. And that wasn't gonna happen. |
Miami gives me an upset stomach because sometimes they play to the level of their competition. Today, despite their turnovers, they dominated FSU. The final score is no indication of that though.
Now since they beat FSU everybody is gonna jump on the VT bandwagon. However, VT has played nobody this year. Ex: 1) UCF W, 49-28 2) James Madison W, 43-0 3)Texas A&M W, 35-19 4) Connecticut W, 47-13 5)Rutgers W, 48-22 6) Syracuse W, 51-7 So we shall see how well clubbing teams like James Madison and Connecticut prepares VT for Miami. |
Quote:
Yes, VT hasn't played teams of good calibur, thing is, they didn't struggle a lot in any of them. Miami almost got beat by WVU last week, and you think they would've tried to put the game away earlier. Instead though, FSU was still in the game in the 4th quarter. |

2) WVU is a better opponent than James Madison. Struggle or not the Win is the objective. Something Miami has down all season. 3) If you saw the game FSU was never in it. Hell at home against their in-state rivals they got throughly dominated. The score was not indicative of that. |
So then why does it matter who you play if the win is the objective? No?
Ok I'll bring this up, do you have more confidence in a team that barely squeeks by any team barely or a team that wins decisively regardless of who they play? |
No team that makes as many mistakes such as turnovers can be said to have "dominated." They lost the championship game last year because of turnovers, too. Miami needs to improve this.
Virginia Tech played a nice Texas A&M team, and Connecticut almost beat NC State today. Connecticut is not the perrenial pushover they usually are. I gave Miami alot of credit when I responded to this thread. Their defense did everything they need to! Miami will maintain their number two spot, I understand that their fans want Oklahoma to lose, but if Miami takes care of business (and who can stop them if they get by Va. Tech) they will be in the big one Jan. 4th. |
Brock Berlin's TD/Int Ratio this year, minus the Florida and FSU game.
4/5. Is that good? Considering this was against Lousiana Tech, East Carolina, Boston College and West Virginia. |
I CANT BELIEVE ALL THESE PEOPLE SAY THEY EXPECTED MIAMI TO WIN!!!
just last night i was reading posts on how miami would lose by "double digits" and how they are "overrated" and how they arent the same team... and who cares if they almost lost to WV everybody has its day when they dont play up to par... why cant people see that west virginia was playing there hearts out to know out miami one last time in the big east... and miami casually was playing just to win.... I said it a few weeks ago and i will say it again MIAMI WILL GO UNDEFEATED.... there biggest test was FSU and they came up BIG.... i know VT looks good.... but you will see how intense miami's Defense will play... They are VERY good, one of the nations best, unfortunately they only show up for the big games.... i guess all i can say is i told you so to anybody who doubted miami... GO CANES! oh yea, and i won 50 bucks on this game!! |

You see? ... the canes are for real!
just one more thread to say that for EVERYONE who doubted Miami, I just want to say look at who is undefeated after October 11th... this is a game where they were 7 point underdogs, EVERYONE said they would lose... i mean EVERYONE, thats all i heard on ESPN from every motherfucker on there... Corso...Kirk...May...oh yea and Trev Alberts can kiss my ass... he said they would get blown away by 3 td's....asshole...
Ok well... at the end of the day I am smiling... GO CANES!!! :D |
not everyone said that... i know you said a FG... someone on this forum said double digits... might have been the dude... actually it was roadrage i think... yep here is his quote...

by the way... what happened to arkansas...lol auburn beat em! |
sorry here it is:
Miami-Florida (+7) @ Florida State When was the last time Miami was an underdog? Anyone remember? It's been at least two years. Miami normally plays down to bad teams and rises to the occasion for the big games. This time, Miami doesn't have the talent it needs, especially in the backfield and the offensive line. Five FGs against a bottom 20 team is not Miami football. Florida State smells blood early and often, and Bowden will go for the kill, even to the point of running the two-minute offense with a 20+ point lead in the fourth quarter. Yes, you read that right, a 20+ point lead. Florida State by double-digits. |

Why don't you post in the existing Miami thread? -_-.

miami is good, but i think that va tech is better and va tech will win the matchup, propping them on a natl title game vs OU.
|
tell me who VT has played... which one of those teams are in the top 25?
why do you think K-state looked so good early on... look at there opponents... now they lost the last two games... VT is a good team... but they wont remain undefeated... |
this one deserved a post by its own! :D
|
/me is an FSU fan, but I was worried about today's game just the FSU having the "Wide Right" curse thingy. No matter what the record these teams play up for each other. It was quite sloppy and I hate to see FSU lose but 'grats to you 'Canes.

Who has Miami played? Besides Florida and FSU, and you can even make a case for Florida and FSU not being worthy of the Top 25. And even then they had to rally to beat Florida and they didn't dominate FSU either. |
And beating one opponent doesn't mean anything.
Michigan did more than Miami did to FSU. They raped Notre Dame, next week they lose to Oregon. Oregon beats Michigan, then they get raped by Washington or Washington St. |
ur right... beating ONE apponent doesnt mean anything
BUT.... all miami has done is win every damn regular season game for the past 3 1/2 years... lets see thats 40 games in a row... and plenty of top 25 teams in those games... so yes... beating FSU is just one game... but until they lose they deserve all the credit in the world... a win is a win.... ugly or not |
jesus christ....
"who has miami played? besides Florida and FSU..." Dude... FSU was #5 nationally..... UF was in the top 25 and just beat the #6 team in the nation (LSU)! Miami gets no credit do they... excuses, excuses, excuses.... look, bottom line they've played 6 games... two are in the top 25 (UF will be back in after beating LSU), and VTech hasnt played anyone in the top 25... most arent even close to being in either.... AND.... i dont know which UM-FSU game you watched... but uh... 22-0 towards the end of the third quarter, AT FSU... thats pretty dominating to me.... i dont think you watched the game... sure it was sloppy... but FSU didnt even come close... Miami's defense totally slaughtered them.... but of course someone will say "yea but miami's offense didnt play that good..." right? well wasnt FSU's defense the best in the nation coming into this game? 7.8 points per game allowed? miami score enough to win right? ...just silencing all the critics |
BTW.... miami also played boston college... and were beating the 33-0 before putting in the 2nd stringers.... (won 33-14)
point being, Boston college could also be undeafeated and in the top 15 (maybe top 10) with the schedule that Vtech had... very arguable, but very true |

I am not saying Miami sucks, you just have to look at all factors. First off FSU's defense only gave up 15 points, that's not a dominating offensive performance. Even if FSU's defense was giving up 7.8 PPG. Why is it that low? Well they played NC, Duke and GTech in 3 of those games. FSU not coming close? Losing by 8 points is not a close game? Being in the game in the 4th quarter is not a close game? FSU was ranked #12 to start the season, 7 teams ahead of them lost, that is how they got their #5 ranking. FSU didn't play good teams, and even though I'm an MD fan, MD wasn't good at all in the game. What's your point about Boston College? If you gave 3/4th of the NCF VTech's schedule they could be undefeated. Your point is...? Yes, VTech has played crap teams. Yes a win is a win no matter how you win. But it's much more convincing if you rape the hell out of a crappy team, then if you beat a team by 2 points. VTech plays WVU next week, we'll see how good WVU really is. |
.... no attitude just facts.... im making a point to state that miami is better than everyone including u perceive them to be...
"Yes, VTech has played crap teams. Yes a win is a win no matter how you win. But it's much more convincing if you rape the hell out of a crappy team, then if you beat a team by 2 points" in the last 5 or 6 years that i know of (since butch davis was coaching) miami has never gone out and "raped a team" , they always pull out there starters...who says that you have to blow out a team for it to be convincing... who cares if miami beat WV by 2 points they won right? whats convincing is that they came back with under two minutes left to win the game.... you know what.... why argue... miami is undefeated and i dont think anyone will beat them this year.... just one thing... FSU lost by 8, but if you watched the game, it was 22-7 with 5 seconds left... the game was over for the last 5 minutes of the game... it WAS a convincing win... FSU scored when the game was already over... so that 8 points was pretty convincing to me.... |

Miami has a great D, but their offense in my opinion has been somewhat lacking. And against a good defense, if you have no offense, youre defense will get worn out. |
dont doubt miami... they won... thats the bottom line... i know that berlin played like shit.... but Payton did a hell of a job, so did winslow... they might be lacking.... but they won.... they did enough... thats what counts...
here's a link from one dumbass ESPN ANALysist who said miami would lose... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/column...van&id=1635936 |
They won. True, but you will always have doubters, up until you win the championship game.
Until Miami has some offensive consistency, I will keep doubting them. |
no problem, you have the right to your opinion.... we'll argue the point again when miami beats Tennessee and Virgina Tech back to back in a couple of weeks...
until then, its a sweet sweet day... :D |
Looks like I stirred it up more than I thought. It just proves my point. The 'canes dont get as much respect as they should. The arguement of who they played is such crap. Out of 6 games they played FSU and Florida. Two huge in state rivals. This team has lost twice in 4 years. Last year in the championship game, on a questionable call that should NOT have been made, and to Washington. They were kept out of the championship game that year and had a good shot to win . So , after VaTech, who is the next team thats supposed to beat Miami?
|
Seriously, why the fuck is respect so important? If you win all your games and people don't respect you, that shouldn't matter. I mean you have your championship ring, and people don't respect you, so what? You have your ring, that's all that should matter.

Again, what I said earlier, who the hell cares what people think? If Miami takes care of business and wins out, they will be in the National Championship game.

Salsa has a good point... its not about respect on this forum.... but think about it.... the mentality that you guys are showing, which they are your opinions, so i am not putting them down, is the same mentality that the voters for the BCS have.... and its ridiculous... most people are dying to see miami fall, and if/when they finally do, they attack them like wolves and dont stop.... the Voters show no mercy....
It happend in 2000, (we definitly should have played OU in that game) and who knows, it could happen again.... Miami may control its destiny by just winning, but its a pretty big insurance policy to have the respect of other individuals.... thats the point i was trying to make with all the excuses and what ifs... |

it WAS a convincing win, and FSU was NOT 'in it at the end', but dominating? hrmm, more like taking advantage of mistakes
Miami does squeak by on bad teams, but they have always done that, even in the past 2 years.. they have some wierd mental thing, squeak by against bad teams, and blow good ones away.. its always been that way, and it pisses me off (UF fan) |
