Oden out for season
After the jubilation of landing the first pick in the lottery, the Blazers will have to hear about picking Oden over Durant sooner than it seemed.
Yes, this is waaaaaaaay to early to doom his career, Amare Stoudamire came back from microfracture surgery, but it still hurts to see him referred to as Bowie 2.0 http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...x?name=simmons <sigh>

Microfracture surgery is hit or miss, I think. For every Stoudamire that's a success story, you have a Grant Hill who was never the same afterward.
I just hope the same curse that got to them when they picked Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan doesn't haunt them again.

Simpson was on the shortlist but Cameron did not think that such a nice guy could be a ruthless killer. -From the Collector's Edition DVD of The Terminator |

I think it is very unfortunate; the Blazers had a good young squad. With McMillan coaching, they could have competed for the 8th seed.
I personally would have drafted Durant. Though Oden can possibly be a Tim Duncan type player on defense, I doubt his offensive game will ever come close to mirroring that of Duncan. Durant though, he is the truth. Terrific all around skill, a great late game hunger, and incredible athletic ability. I fully expect Durant to become an all NBA defender within the next few years. |
