El Duque now a MET!

Great move for the Mets.
Bottom line, they needed a sp, now they got a decent one.
and for Julio... BRAVO!

I wouldn't be so excited if I were you. Dookie sucks balls and he's so old that Carl Everett denies his existance. He's averaging 5 IP/GS so he'll burn the pen and he has an ERA over 6 despite AZ's stellar IF that eats up ground balls and turns DPs at amazing rates.

The DBacks never wanted dookie in the first place. He was a requirement from the White Sox in the Vazquez trade as an attempt to bring the salaries closer together. They gave him up to the first team that offered them a living, breathing player for him. Since Minaya is used to getting bent over in trades (Kazmir?)

Juilio has been on a roll in May (~1.85 ERA). He throws really hard and doesn't make that much. If he ends up sucking, the DBacks DFA him and still save money.

Julio was third in the ROY voting in 2002.

He's got the potential to be Armando Benitez with less control. He'll be OK for 'Zona, especially since I couldn't name their closer right now (then again, I'm not paying attention). He'll throw gas, but he won't know where it will go, and has a Benitez-like tendency to melt down.

I wish him the best, and am glad he still has a chance. Although Kris Benson was a nice gift from the Mets for him

Yea, I saw El Dookie pitch in person here twice and was not impressed, at all. Sure he changes arm angles and all that good stuff. BUT, he was topping out at 83 MPH on his fastball and threw his curve at 74 MPH. I was shocked the DBacks picked him up and I'm pleased they dumped him.

Speaking of the DBacks, Brandon Webb is setting the league on fire!

Yes he did, although again he failed to get past the 5th inning. Shea stadium may work well for him since he has obvious flyball tendancies (Chase Field, formerly BOB, doesn't treat flyball pitchers not named Schilling or Johnson well). As a 5th starter, there are certainly worse options.

This could be a trade that helps both teams a lot. AZ's closer (Jose Valverde) has gone from being one of the top closers in baseball to nothing in the last week. He may be hurt because he's lost his command and can't throw anything but his fastballs. Hitters know this and he's not getting anybody out. I think Julio could be a possible candidate for the closer's spot, at least on a short term basis.

I don't know what is up with Valverde, going into last, he held batters to less than a .600 OPS and a BAA less than .200 (career). This week has raised both to about .900 and over .300.

I'm hella excited about today's matchup. Webb vs. Pedro. It doesn't get much better than that. Webb has back to back shutouts right now.
