How to eradicate STDs

It seems like all sexually transmitted diseases could be eradicated if people would simply stop randomly screwing each other. Wouldn't it be possible to eliminate almost every STD in one generation if people would practice monogamy with very few or even one partner? I know it'll never happen, but it's something that I've wondered about.

I often have no sympathy for people with STDs, unless one person was totally lied to by their infected partner. Any thoughts?

Actually it would be even "easier" to do than that. Unfortunetely we would need everyone within an age group to all agree to do it. And you know someone would screw it up.

Here's the idea: If we could just get one generation (start early like 11 years old) to only have sex with their same age or lower, or with people who have only had sex with "virgin-connected"* people for the rest of their lives, then it would work.

*what I mean by this is, say you have sex, you're both virgins before, after you wouldn't be virgins, but you would be "virgin-connected" (I need a better word for this, but can't think of one, sorry.) In other words, there's absolutely no way you could have an STD (well pretty much) and nor could any virgin-connected people.

That's it, no testing would need to be done, just honesty between people. The whole generation wouldn't even need to participate, so long as you kept the pool clean and seperated from the other pools so to speak.

Some ways we might actually eventually start this might be membership cards that state you're clean and have severe fines if you bring any STDs into the pool and membership revoked. Along with documenting all your sexual experiences (so if STDs are introduced it can be traced and dealt with.) Maybe even have exclusive clubs for casual sex for people with this membership. Eventually the club will be prestigeous enough that everyone will have joined if they can, membership will be wide enough that people rarely if ever need to have sex with others outside the club and the people with the incurable STDs will eventually die off, eliminating the last of the STDs.

Make sense?

Oh, and plan B is to engineer new STDs that are deadly. Therefore, wiping out the irresponsible people. That'll teach 'em

Plan A wouldn't work, because some STDs can be transmitted from the mother to the child (no, not like THAT). Plan B is just plain mean. :P

Germs and viruses are crafty little things. You might wipe out this batch, but in a few generations, some more would evolve that are currently now "crowded out" by the current strains.

yeah... this is a lot like communism.

in this i mean that it looks like an incredibly sound idea on paper, but its way to idealistic and "1984ish" to actually hold water. in the same sense, we can eliminate the flu or AIDS by just not coming in contact with people who have said diseases/infections. the truth of the matter is, when it comes to these idealistic simplifications, they're all so oversimplified that they can't exist in the real world which, contrary to some belief, is not as simple as we make it out to be.

bottom line: there is always going to be some complexity, some person, who ruins it for everyone that actually tries to make the system work. this leads to a great deal of disillusion within the rest of the system and the subsequent embalming of said complexity, kind of like stalin. then we all go back to what works for other people who don't have STDs: democracy, i mean, condoms...

Not to mention that there are a good many STDS that can spread through nonsexual means.... like AIDS.

Hmmm, Plan B is interesting. It seems like a more scientific version of that plan to send all STD infected people to an Island and let them all screw each other to death! Brilliant!

I think i heard from my dad, a Gynecologist, that herpes can be transmitted through shared toilet seats...

Sorry folks, i think there's just too many ways for non-sexual transmission of STDs for us to really pull this off.

well dont you people think that some STD's were made in a labratory because someone got sick of all these sluts and wanted to kill them off?

It would really help to make your point if you were a little more, um, polite about how you say stuff like this?

Halx 10-27-2004 12:27 AM

Nature is such that we will never rid ourselves of STDs until there becomes an easier way for such viruses to spread themselves... then we're screwed.

Medical wisdom maintains that a clean dry toilet seat cannot transmit herpes or any other infection to intact skin. But not all toilet seats are clean and dry.

Several readers, like this one, contacted us to insist they contracted infections from gym equipment or unsanitary facilities: “At my gym there are many men and women who are models with great bodies. Quite a few of these people have herpes from being promiscuous.

“These men shave their legs, arms, underarms, butts and even pubic hair at the gym in the shower. You said intact skin and a dry toilet seat are safe. But you DON'T have that in many health clubs. Shaving is an abrasive action and often produces bleeding. I have seen guys shave and jump out of the shower and use the toilet.

“I am a powerlifter and do squats with as much weight as possible. Sometimes I shave from my knees to my thighs to tape my thighs before working out. One day I showered and dried off and went to the toilet, but the seat was wet. I took a towel and wiped it, but a few weeks later I had a rash. My doctor diagnosed it as herpes and prescribed Valtrex. The rash was gone in 3 days.

“I have been married for 25 years to my high school sweetheart and have never even considered cheating on her. How could I explain this? Luckily my doc asked us a lot of very personal questions and said it was very likely I got it from the gym.”
