condoms causing cancer (o.O)
Something interesting I came across...
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...any_condoms_dc discuss. is that true? |
oh. my. god. 3 TIMES the usual levels in food. As a consumer I am VERY concerned that my DAILY use of condoms will give me cock cancer.
I say don't worry. There are many things in the world that are much unhealthier than trace levels of N-nitrosamine in condoms. Like pregnancy. And STD's. |
I have come to the conclusion, according to various scientific studies, that every single thing on this planet causes cancer, and that its a miracle that we're even living past 30.

I've started saying, "Hell, their gonna find out soon that we just get it naturally... oh wait..." ;) |
Nitrosamine are also present in deep fried food, I don't see anyone concerned about that

MY wife is a school nurse and just this week was giving a presentation to a middle school class on STDs and the such.
She was telling me that if you use a condom 100% of the time, it only reduces your risk of getting an STD to 50%!!!! So even if you use a condom all the time, there's still a flip of the coin chance as to whether you will contract an STD or not. (That's if your partner has an STD to give). |

It seems like there is a lack of details in this article. What kind of condoms were tested? Were they only latex? Polyurethane? or "natural membrane"? It seems to me that the natural membrane type would not have the chemical as they wouldn't need to have their elasticity enhanced as latex would. But was this study done on Poly? I am allergic to latex so Poly is how we go when we use them. I have a feeling that Poly would not need the additive as much as latex. Making it safer as far as cancer goes - though it's not been tested as extensively for prevention of STD's. |
You're right raeanna, disease was an overly harsh term for me to use.
I fear unwanted pregnancy from unprotected sex far more than I fear contracting an STD. I laugh at the idea of getting cancer from using a condom when the alternative is far riskier. That being said, I'll take my chances with the condom since I probably have a better chance of getting cancer from the sun than I do from having protected sex. |
I don't know about cancer, but I have heard that they can cause infertility.
