I'm just not interested in dating the person I am dating right now. Its not her; it truly is me (I know that sounds like such a line). I just don't want to be tied down in a relationship. Its not letting me move forward, and I'm afraid I will get to comfortable in this relationship and not reach my goals. We haven't been going out for very long; but I really care about her. I am looking for some ways to end this, but keep it as painless as possible. Anyone got any tips?

Be a man about it. Treat her with respect and don't back down. If you're going to break up with her, you can't keep fucking her and you have to be very clear about where you stand. If she's reasonable she should be able to relate to you not wanting to be in a relationship at the moment. Sometimes, oftentimes, things just don't work out between two people. Above all, don't drag this out any longer than you have to.

To keep it as painless as possible, tell her what you said above sooner than later. Longer it lasts, the more painful it becomes.

The best thing you can do is be honest. Talk to her. I spent so much time invested in my relationship trying to get my guy to open up to me. I knew what he was thinking and feeling most of the time but i got sick of analyzing. If you are open with your girlfriend ** then she'll appreciate that and it might make it easier. Just let her know that as much as you care for her, you don't want to get into this if you can't give her what you think she deserves.

** Do not be honest to the point of stupidity (something my dad always told me... i'm only beginning to see the truth in that now)
