Romantic ideas

Me and this girl were just talking about trashy romance novels and why they're so widely sold and sold mostly to middle-aged women. She said that maybe it has something to do with guys not being romantic any more.
The theory was that most middle-aged women have been married for at some time and their husbands are taking them for granted and not doing things for them any more.
Now I just wanted to know, what do you guys do to keep a marriage exciting and romantic? What are some ideas? Just in case I get married some distant day....

For me, my husband just says something nice or remembers something special and it makes my day. We were driving to see a friend and when we rounded a certain curve in the road, he said driving that always reminded him of buying my engagement ring and that was so romantic to me.

The key to any relationship is simple: just be nice! If you are nice, then it should be exciting and romantic. If you are not so nice, then you usually will end up sleeping in the den.

If you're open to it, a relationship can always surprise you and stay fresh. This is something I've learned after eight years of marriage.

I found out this week that lurkette likes liverwurst on saltines with american cheese. It takes her back to being eight years old in a fort she built in the woods. The minute I heard that, I scampered straight out to the store and came back with the goods, and we had our little memory-snacks. I had one, since liverwurst really isn't my thing, but she loved them and ate a bunch.

My point is, you can definitely get into a "taking for granted" mode (I've been there!) where you already know everything and nothing is new anymore. Or you can be open and looking for surprises, and what do you know, surprises show up.
