What is your political affiliation (or do you even have one)?

Just curious as to what the general politial affiliations are around here. I think it would be a useful thing to consider when reading the politics board.

The poll is totally anonymous and I've tried to be as inclusive as possible.

Oh, yeah... For everyone's info... I consider myself libertarian, although I often have conflicting viewpoints that follow more in line with the dems. I very rarely lean to the conservative side.

Republicans need not fear coming forward. I, for one, would not persecute someone for their political party. Odds are that roughtly 51% of people on TFP could be republican. The poll seems to reflect differently.

Indeed.

Unfortunately, candidates are forced to appeal to the extremists in their parties to be considered "electable".

Just to be safe, I voted for "other" - I'm inclined to vote the leftist or green party here in Finland. And probably every party here is more liberal than the republican party in USA. Hell, even liberal-rightwingers (libertarian rightwingers in bastardized american political slang) have said that they'd be democrats.

I support personal freedom and regulated economy, that is.

Free Market Socialist Democrat. Which places me ideologically opposed to major planks in both right wing and left wing parties.

Otherwise known as none of the above.

In the last election, my incumbant seemed to have done a good job, so I voted for him.

I'm pretty liberal, I suppose I'd say Democrat. I don't know all about some of the other parties, so I can't say I'm not one of those... I took a little quiz thingy (like 10 questions) that said I was a socialist, but I don't think ten questions covers all the angles...

Democrat only because I am still a few degrees short of a Communist. I like it but we'd never get over that hill of Socialism. Also, I am fairly radical in my ideas about technology--the funding, uses, and advancements thereof--and find some sanctuary in the Democratic Platform.

Social libertarian, economically moderate, moderate on foreign policy. I fall between democrat and libertarian on the political compass, but I tend to vote for the latter, as I feel that the major parties have fallen prey to self-interest and are unable to adequately represent more than a minute fraction of the population.

I am the classical minarchist, believing in a "night watchman state" that intervenes only when a person's rights have been violated.

The three biggest issues I consider are gun control (opposed,) free speech/expression/privacy (strongly support in all situations,) and a belief in minimal government, covering low spending, low tax rates, careful consideration of spending on social programs, and a complete abhorrence of property taxes, eminent domain, and similar government activities that I consider indistinguishable from armed robbery.
