The Purge Begins - Neocons Ascendant
Powell goes today. Who goes tomorrow?
|
Powell was not purged...he has said for some time he wished to retire.
Why is it we have had a string of rookies posting like it's 1984? |

Or perhaps just make it to where they have to be tilted before they can do anything but reply.

All right, let's go through this. Powell's departure is not a surprise. Although there were a number of reports of division b/t him and the pentagon, Powell was always free to voice his opinion within the admin. He was not a lone sane voice in an otherwise evil empire of an administration. He was the one who sold the world on WMDs. He was the one who presented the evidence and provided the conclusions that the WMDs were there.
Powell's leaving does not presage the age of the neocons. Take a breath, folks. Be honest with yourselves. Does liking Powell make you feel somehow fair or moderate or o.k. with your intolerance of opposite or conservative viewpoints? Powell worked for the admin. for four years. He took an active part in many of the decisions many of you view as evil. |
I didn't know Powell was a neocon, thus his muted disagreement with the administration.
Also, I don't think that Ashcroft was a neocon. A neocon - believe it or not - is more secular than your average conservative and will often take more liberal social positions. The defining trait of neocons is their desire for American military superiority. In fact, I would go so far as to claim that it's the neocons that are reconstituting the cabinet so it is nothing but neocons. I find it somewhat ironic that the Religious Right, to whom many attribute the success of Bush's re-election, are going to have a new administration that is heavily neoconservative and not chomping at the bit to enact the Religious Right's version of a moral America. Edit: Upon re-reading the initial post, I'm not sure if he meant that the neocons were being purged or that the neocons were doing the purging. Bah, I'm a tad confused, my reply may have been in vain. |
This thread seems like borderline trolling to me. A one-line loaded question that isn't even as long as the title is not likely to produce a good discussion. I suggest that the originaly poster edit the post and provide a bit more discussion material so as to create a productive environment for debate.

Theres nothing to debate- he was erroneous in his assumption that Powell was fired.

Seeing as how I agree with MSD, and that this is the thread starter's first and only post after being here for 2 months, I am going to close this thread as it is going nowhere.
To the thread starter: If you would like to have a serious discussion about Powell's departure, or about your views of current events with respect to neoconservatives, you are welcome to start a new thread that goes into more detail about your thoughts and opinions. |
