Just some random thoughts, need input

Ok, this has been going through my head for quite some time and it's coming out. I haven't started a political thread in a long time and i have not participated in many, but i have found the entire forum to be enlightening.

Ok
just some randomness, chime in when something strikes you

1. Bush was 'elected' with roughly half of the country for him and half against him. He promised to unite this country and over the past few years, i have seen nothing but partisanship from everyone and a definite widening of the chasm between people. It's not even the haves and the have nots, it's just hte general population of people for or against bush. What's worse is that it keeps growing and the amount if vitriol against him is staggering. I know people like ARTtelevision can say they support whomever the CinC is, but i know the general public, myself included, carry grudges and will not put full faith behind someone they dislike. I am kind of saddened at how far the chasm has become as I do not remember it ever being this split for a president. I am also concerned that a majority of americans will not support any president for some time to come. I do not see a country rallying behind any future prospect for president (2004 through 2012). If bush wins, there will still be about 50% of the country against him, if kerry wins, there will still be about 50% of the country that hates him...

2. I am really glad most people do not pay attention to politics. I was at work the other day (restaurant) and someone wrote on the board, "Go Panthers" for the football game. someone else came along and added, "Go Panthers/Republicans, sweep the carolinas in '04" and I was thinking about it..and nobody said anything really, but when i was talking to peopel and asking what they thought, roughly half agreed and half didn't...so i erased it and asked for the political stuff to kindly be excluded from the workplace as some of us do side work for political rallies, etc, and there could easily be a pamphlet and info war going on which could lead to some serious hostilities in the workplace...It is a single owner type restaurant and not a corporation, so there is no official policy regarding politics, but i generally feel it would lead to hostilities as everyone has an opinion, informed or not...from the cook's "Did you see the cops arrest those fags (sic) at the RNC protest" to the "kerry is a pussy" to the "Bush is a terrorist" to a very detailed account of how taxes are not 'bad' just not wanted..

3...seriously, i am really worrying about the divide that is growing in the country and i honestly cannot find a way for it to heal without some major changes...I don't know if they would be foreign or domestic policy changes, i don't know if they would be ideological, religious, social or what have you....I just don't know how we can get back to a country that reasonably respects the president and the office of the president...

any further thoughts?

1. Only about 40% of the eligble voters in the USA vote. So about 20% of the population are "For" and 20% are "against" either party. The rest of the people in the USA don't care who or what polititians are doing.

2. Talk is cheap in the USA. Only actions count when it comes to politics. Voting is step No. 1. Actually campaigning for a candidate is next and actually running for office is the ultimate step.

3. I agree that this country is in serious trouble. Somehow the eligible voters that are disinterested in the future well-being of this country have to become interested in contributing to the outcome by voting and participating in the political process. A revised interest in actually educating our children would be a big start.
