Kofi Annan on Sesame Street!!

I just woke up to UN Secretary-General singing the A-B-C song on Sesame Street awkwardly while wagging his finger in rhythm with Elmo and the gang!

I personally loved it, funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

See the BBC article

What do you think of political figures making cameos on kids' TV shows?

All for it, as long as they don't start politickin' to the kids.

I fear the day this starts happening:

"Hey kids, if your Mommy and Daddy voted for Bush he voted for the death of our soldiers."

or

"Hey kids, if your Mommy and Daddy voted for Dean, they voted for a terrorist-lover."

yikes

It sounds like a conspiracy to me. It appears that he is trying to become a recognizable face to the children of industrialized countries, eventually gaining acceptance for his plans of a one world government.

The UN is utterly worthless as a force of good on this planet.

Anyway, I don't mean to get off topic.

He's quite cuddly looking!

So let's lay down the guns, tanks, missiles, biochemical weapons, gas, bombs, landmines, warplanes, the navy fleet, and everything for a bit and take Kofi's lead... find some kids or your family members and get cuddly! Sing some songs!

On another note, the UN has helped out considerably in some places, though I admit that it has difficulty solving big problems.

Taken at face value, this comment is worth the bits it takes to store. Attacks like these are as indefensible as they are ridiculous.

The UN does bad things (Human Rights/Hipocracy Commission), but it does many good things (how about it's Secretary General going on Sesame Street and telling children how important it is to get along, for one).

The irony couldn't be more striking.

I think this was done awhile ago as I was at an MUN Conference last year and they showed the clip of it there. Pretty good, and yeah, he didn't say anything political in there, just a nice message. Granted, as a security organization, the UN is worthless, because that's not the way it was designed and I don't think with the number of nations there that have different views, it doesn't facilitate the role of a security organization very well. Their humanitarian resolutions are very effective and have helped the state of the world. Is the UN a huge entire failure? No, not at all. Are there things that need work? Indeed there are, but then again, everything needs work all the time.

Even if the UN isn't the greatest at making decisive actions sometimes, I think it's importance at providing a global arena for members of all the nations on earth to voice their nations opinions and issues can't be discounted...
And as archer mentioned, that it can provide effective human rights and humanitarian resolutions is another important aspect...
