Celebrity involvement with politics

I was on YouTube today and found some of the celebrity 'public service announcement' (PSA) videos where celebrities tell you the importance of voting. It's all for a good cause- but as more and more celebrities take an active role in politics, how bad is the risk of unjust labeling and association from the celebs they get public endorsements from?

Is the new interest that is attracted by famous people (the new voters who vote because of the hype, or because someone they idolize is all for it) a fair exchange for a surge of new, and potentially ill informed, voters showing up at the polls?

Here are some videos to watch

Celebrities have opinions, and agendas, the same as you or I. The difference is, that many of them have a built in platform from which to voice that opinion, and push that agenda. No big deal, I guess. Comes with the territory. Should they keep their collective yaps shut because they're famous?
And, if someone is going to vote for a candidate, simply because Lindsay, Alec or Christina are voting for them...there are far more serious issues at work there. Issues that I'm certainly not trained to address.

If they make good arguments, great. Matt Damon's video on Sarah Palin was pretty good.
