Liberal or Conservative?
Well, as I was reading posts here at the politics forum I came across one of NCB's posts saying that conservatives were the minority here at tfp(at the Ann C. thread)...I think that probably is true, but I couldn't help but wonder what a vote on something like this would be. I would strongly encourage those that don't regularly post in the politics forum to vote so that we can get a better picture, it goes without saying that people don't have to post what they voted for, but maybe some comments on whether they believe tfp to be liberal or conservative and why. However, as the starter of the thread I feel I should probably state my leaning, overall I would say that I am more conservative than liberal, I am somewhere very close to the middle but once I add up my ideology so to speak, it comes out leaning to the right.
Note: I would wish that people think about what they are most, not necessarily how much do they agree with the full conservative or liberal agenda...I wasn't going to add the option for a centrist but I did. |
There's been a number of these polls. This forum leans very heavily left.

I'm glad you started this thread. I to would like to see the results! I think TFP is a good mix of all the above. Myself....I am Conserative financially, militarilly, and constitutionally. A moderate socially, and religiously. |

The fact that it leans further left has more to do with the age of this forum than anything.

I believe the poll choices are too few, because it would require that I choose "Centrist" without explaining what I mean by that. I am a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. I don't know of a convenient term to express my foreign policy stance, as I am neither an isolationist nor an imperialist. I am somewhere in the middle of those two extremes that roughly equates to "leave 'em alone unless help is asked for and it is justified." The term "centrist" cannot possibly convey any coherent meaning of those who must choose it. |
The problem with a poll is you are asking people to judge their own political leanings.
There are an amazing amount of people out there who would tell you they are moderate or centered when they are in fact soildly in one camp. The libertarian site was perhaps a better way to do this if someone wanted to dig up that post. |

HA!! I knew I was in the center!!!

Well, according to that quiz, I'm a libertarian...I find it hard to label myself into just one party though. I'm "liberal" in some respects and "conservative" in some respects. I don't fall into one category, but I'm probably more liberal than conservative.

Willravel are we (political)twins
http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/draw.php?p=7&e=4 I understand the difficulty in choosing one side or the other, I also am certain that not one person exactly fits into any category I can think of. This is just to get a picture. Edit: Mal you are quite better than I am at searching I bow at your searching abilities. |
Thanks Ms. M. :)

I'm pretty sure that i'm a Red Torie. When I was younger I was a Blue Grit.

Social liberal, fiscal conservative - which seems to be the opposite of the way both the US Republicans and Canadian Conservatives do things. Spending money like drunken sailors and running up the credit card bill.
|
I'm a very left-leaning liberal. I vote Green in local elections and Democrat in larger ones (and I sincerely wish we did not have a two-party system despite my voting record). Pro-choice, anti-gun, anti-death penalty, anti-Bush.
That sum it up for ya? http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/draw.php?p=7&e=1 |

I see no option for communist?
 m |
I have to say that that quiz was a bit simplistic... on the economic questions, I am not sure how any other choice was even possible on them.
I liked the test we had here that put me to the left of Chairman Mao a lot better :) http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/draw.php?p=6&e=0 |

I'm pretty much in the middle, but i am pro gun, prochoice, pro death penalty (although not in it's current form) and see that bush, while he has fucked up on some things, has also done some things right.

As much as I'd like to say the quiz is too short and lacks any depth, it seems to be pegging everyone nicely. |

A more reliable indication of political philosophy would be a survey of questions over very general beliefs and very specific issues. The one many of you have posted here is too simple to be reliable. Sounds like a good job for someone in this forum... Any takers? |
