This weekend, a large airshow took place to raise money for the Royal Air Force Association (a charity that helps retired airmen and women).

Here are some of the pics we took at the event.

just a question though...

you say its for raising money for retirees..since this show would cost an arm and a leg not only to run it, but to also run the planes around for a weekend, how much money is expected to be made after costs?

just curious...

but it sure does look like you know your planes

The Vulcan predates stealth planes by several decades. It's a fantastic craft though - the last long range bomber used by the RAF, active in the longest range bombing run in world history - a group took off from England and succesfully bombed the runway at Port Stanley on the Falklands during the war with Argentina.

Another interesting fact is that the Vulcan was the last plane designed by Roy Chadwick in 1947, who also designed the Lancaster.

Since it started, the airshow has contributed (net) over one and a half million pounds to the RAFA.

Most of the people displaying are private individuals who love to fly aerobatics, or sponsored teams who are paid for by advertising (Red Bull, for example), there are charitable trusts running some planes (like the Vulcan) and the RAF, Navy and Army aircraft contribute paid for from the ministry of defence PR budget.
