A picture a day
So I'm doing this in my Myspace blog as a way to keep up with photography, learning my camera, and learning to take better pictures. I thought I might also post it here and see if anyone wanted to join me. The only rule is that the photograph has to be taken where you live, whether it's in your house or town/city. This also gives everyone else a chance to maybe see a little bit of a place that wouldn't see otherwise. Also, don't limit yourself to just one! If you take a photograph and post it, then take one later in the day that you just love, post it anyways!
NOTE: As a way to keep this thread clean, easy to navigate, and easy for others to load, I would suggest posting the picture as a thumbnail. If you need any help in learning how to post one (easy as pie, I promise!), just let me know. I'll be happy to share. (: For my first photograph of the year, I stayed in my apartment (for now). It's too cold and snowy to go out just yet. I have these two vases in my apartment that have nice collections of dead flowers. Basically, it's showing something in my apartment AND my laziness. Awesome. http://tn1-1.pv.deviantart.com/fs24/...by_MinkaPY.jpg |
I like this idea a lot. I'll find something to put up.
|
I tried it last year. I found that getting just one picture a day turned into an excuse to take crappy photos and I gave up on it.
Good luck to you. |

Well... I think you'll find that the objective of getting a photograph a day will become counter to your goal of learning to take better pictures.
...at least that was my experience. Yours may be better. |
I don't see how that would be possible.
Practicing something can't make you get worse at it. |

OH SNAP. Ranger, you're off to an amazing start. Good luck. |

My hat's off to ya if you can pull it off. |
I never said it had to be meaningful... Take my Day 2 pic for example:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2236/...8a8ff2ab_s.jpg My son and I are building a lego city. That is Hermoine's cozy cottage. And yes, on my hours, it's still Wed. to me. :P Thanks for the well wishes. :) |
A photo a day is a sound proposal... I am looking forward to seeing this play out.
|
I'm hoping to be able to venture outside tomorrow. It's been very, very cold outside and I've been a pansy.
|
A pretty pansy though...
The thread I started with my cell phone pictures was originally intended to be a daily thing... It's a hard objective to meet. Again, good luck. |
Do you mind if I piggy back off your idea? I would love to do (attempt) this project this year! I like what you have posted so far! I'll be here every day to root you on!!

With all the posts that come along with any thread in which someone asks for help or buying advice, it's too obvious that there are a lot of photographers on this forum and it's a shame that they aren't sharing more of their work.
Brilliant idea RangerJoe. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...atermarked.jpg |
Thanks so much. I try. (;
I would love for people to piggy back off of my idea. (: |
I missed a day. I haven't been feeling very well. ):

Welcome back Ranger...LOVE the portrait!
|
good to see you shootin through adversity, Joe......
|
Illness is not an excuse. :)
Hope you are feeling better and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Do you shoot self portraits or is someone taking the photos? It looks like you're using a super-wide on those. |
I do the self portraits. I get bored too easily, sometimes.
No super wide. Just my normal settings. |
With the freezing cold outside, it's hard to get a worthwhile shot everyday. but here's today's shot - that's the Mrs. at our favorite terriyaki place.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...kiportrait.jpg Great self-portrait Ranger Joe. |
Thank you. Your Mrs. is gorgeous.
Day 6: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2266/...682335ce_m.jpg This is an old cabin situated in one of our parks. |
Why can't I see Ranger Joe's pics?
|

|
Two pictures for day 7.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2395/...8ae55278_s.jpg This one isn't as good. I took it from my truck, so I had to crop and straighten it. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2024/...10ea6c1f_s.jpg |
Well, here at work I can see them.
RJ, I love your building studies. That's a favorite subject of mine, as well. And, great thread idea. :) I just got a macro lens as a late xmas present. I'll try to add some pics soon. |
I like that first image. I've always found images with strong contrast more appealing. You did a great job creating just the right amount of contrast.
|
Thank you. I really like the building that's in the last picture. One of these days I will get out of my truck and take a better picture.
|
I like day 6. The contrast between the tree the building and bricks are very intriguing.
