got a new camera!

so my camera came in the mail today. it's a Canon S5 IS. you can find a great review of it on www.dpreview.com, which is where i got plenty of information in making my decision. i'm not affiliated with them in any way, i've just loved them for years. anyway, here's what she looks like.

it's not as hefty as my old SLR, but i guess that's part of the point, eh? anyway, i worked the late shift tonight so i didn't get in until 10, leaving me no time to take pretty pictures. as i was fiddling with it i did find 2 really cool features though. the first is a "super-macro" which lets you focus on an object down to 0cm from the lens (yeah, you can actually touch your subject with the lens, though i don't recommend it for the lens' sake).

there's also a feature that allows you to pick a color (by lining up that color in a little square in the viewer) and setting it to only recieve that color (everything else is b&w). kinda gimicky, but fun... this is how it looks coming right out of the camera.

i'll try and get some nice shots from it tomorrow. if anyone else has any experience with this camera feel free to chime in!

I'm looking for something to replace my 2MP Kodak which has been dropped a few too many times. I looked at Canon's S cameras, but was put off by lack of a real view finder. Has it made a difference to you? I'm looking at one of their A series which still has them, but it seems that fewer and fewer makers are keeping them.

I just got my new Canon PowerShot A560 online. And I have some good experience on its responsive performance and slightly above-average lens. It's great for me to shoot, I think you can try it, maybe you'll love it

Hopefully you can get enough use out of your new camera and all that it has yet to behold upon to warrant the repacement of your previous one.

Kudos on your acquirement.

Wow they released an S5 IS? I've had an S2 IS for about two years and it's great! It has tons of features but I typically only shoot in Tv or Av.

Why did you go from an SLR to a non?

That selective color gimmick is pretty cool.

I've had a Canon S3 IS for about a year now. I love it. Best camera I have ever had.

oOOoo.. I got the same camera just a few months ago... I love the print quality more than anything so far... I coveted the Rebel, but knew that I didn't want to have to work had to take a picture, period... the S5 IS has a very simple point and shoot mode, and I have found the viewfinder (even if not 'real') just as easy as many other cameras I've owned - and I'm a viewfinder kinda gal... more important than anything, my tech-ignorant husband was able to take a few pics of the kiddo (and then was all puffed up about it for hours).

I dunno if i will ever dive deep into the features that are more easily accessed post camera on Photoshop... but the zoom is just what I wanted

S3 and S5 are kind of overkill if you aren't going to get away from point and shoot mode. But the IS Zoom is sweet. I love my S3.
