Question About The Bible
For my own research... pick one which most accurately suits you.
1. a) I have never read the Bible and never will. b) I have skimmed it, once or twice, but a long time ago. I don't understand it. c) I have read it recently and am somewhat interested in its message. d) I frequently read and search through the Bible for understanding. 2. a) The Bible is completely false b) The Bible is mostly false c) The Bible contains some truths d) The Bible is 100% inerrant. 3. a) Jesus is a myth b) Jesus was a normal man c) Jesus was a man with extra special powers d) Jesus was God. 4. a) I have never sinned b) I don't think I have ever sinned c) I've probably sinned d) I am a sinner. Thanks for your answers! |
Interesting.
What are your answers?? Anyway... 1) d 2) c (but you need an option, "The Bible has Truth, but is not as a history/science book") 3) b AND d .... this is the wonder/mystery of the man and what makes him Unique. 4) d |
1) between b and c, read it a long time ago, not really my scene.
2) c 3) b 4) d |

I'm sure you could guess, based on the kind of questions asked. But that's not important. By the way, the a,b,c, or d is intended to be 'most closely' to what you believe. Obviously they aren't all encompassing. |
same as lebell...
1. D 2. C (poorly designed question imho) 3. B and D (a central tenet of Christian faith) 4. D |
1 c
2 c 3 not sure, not a 4 d |
1d
2 -- bad question, I'd have to say none of the above (the Bible is inerrant on matters of faith and morality, but not on, say, historical fact). 3d 4 -- again, bad question. I've certainly sinned, but I'm not a sinner. |

If I walk, I am a walker. If I talk, I am a talker. If I eat, I am an eater. But if I sin, I am not a sinner??????? I'm sorry the questions aren't written the way you like them. It's my thread. I asked them that way on purpose. |
1) Bad question
2) A 3) A 4) D |
Well that definately makes me a sinner!
c,c,c,d |

I fall into a C, C, C, D pattern. The questions in whole aren't very good, not sure what you are looking for, what kind of research this could be.
|
1.<b> e) i have read parts of it, but not the whole thing, and probably never will.</b>
2. c) The Bible contains some <b>historical truths and semi-truths</b> 3. <b>e) Jesus <i>may</i> have been a living person, but if so was a normal man turned into legend post-humously.</b> 4. d) I am a sinner. <b>and loving it. :suave: </b> |
I'll go with a,b,c,d.
yep happy with that. I feel i need to explain my answer of 3c. I consider that jesus more and likely existed in fact i'm almost sure that he did (don't ask me why i feel this way, as i don't really know - not religous in the slightest). As for i powers i'll just say that perhaphs he could do some special shit and engage with people. Also i'm sure he did heal people just like many people that work with alternative meds. But in saying all that i think he was human to and shared in all the vices of mere mortals - I mean sex amongst other things here, the fundamental desires of all living creatures. I have only sinned in regards to the bible not my own beliefs. |
1)C.
2)C./D. 3)D. 4)D. |
I tried to answer your questions as best I could, but you have created what could almost be considered as textbook examples of loaded questions.
e.g. Have you stopped beating your wife yet? a)Yes. b)No. For the record my answers are 1. b, though I take issue with your assertion that anyone who doesn't read the bible regularly doesn't understand it. 2. a, b or c, with regards to historical information it is reasonably accurate, with regards to moral, spiritual, metaphysical information it is, in my opinion, completely false. 3. b 4. d, though I don't agree with the bible's definition of "Sin", if I were to be judged on that basis I would be a sinner. (Lack of belief in god) |
I'll hitch to the Lebell band wagon.
1) d 2) c (but you need an option, "The Bible has Truth, but is not as a history/science book") 3) b AND d .... this is the wonder/mystery of the man and what makes him Unique. 4) d |
Woohoo!
I have a band wagon! |
Go Lebell! Looking over the questions again, I guess I should say B AND D for 3. Depends how you parse 'normal'.
|
B, C, B, D
|
1. b
2. d 3. d 4. d |
1. The first question doesn't contain my answer. You've loaded each answer with bias.
2. B 3. B 4. There is no such thing as sin. |
I must warn you that I haven't used any of the supplied answers for this. I assume it's research only for your own self-interest, in which case, I hope you find something interesting in my answers.
1. a) I have never read the Bible and never will. b) I have skimmed it, once or twice, but a long time ago. I don't understand it. c) I have read it recently and am somewhat interested in its message. d) I frequently read and search through the Bible for understanding. I choose not to answer this question using the supplied choices, because the possible responses are loaded. My answer would be the first part of b, and the second part of c. 2. a) The Bible is completely false b) The Bible is mostly false c) The Bible contains some truths d) The Bible is 100% inerrant. I do not believe that the Bible is meant to be taken as truth, and therefore its having of truth, or lack of truth is irrelevant. I would have to say "d", although not in the context within which you've phrased the responses. It is free from error, because it is completely reliant on interpretation. 3. b) Jesus was a man. 4. e) I do not believe in sin. However, by the standards of someone with fundamental belief in The Old Testament, I've probably sinned. |
1)c
2)c 3)b 4)d Again like the others I have some problems with your questions. I have read the bible many many times and understand it, I am interested in some of its messages yet I have problems with its many contradictions. I also have issues with what the church has left OUT of the bible such as the Gospel of St. Thomas (for the New Testament). We must remember that the bible is a collection of stories meant to teach. Each story was chosen to speak to the greatest amount of people. This is why we get 2 creation stories in Genesis. Many others were left out. I believe Jesus was a man, a teacher and holy. I do not believe he was God incarnate. Also sin is subjective. There are many contradictions within the bible as to what a sin is and isnt. Also unless you have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Old and New Testaments (as well as the Gospels and books that were left out of the bible) it is probable that you have sinned errantly. Should you still be judged? These questions were interesting yet had a fundamental bias that may turn people off. Perhaps rather than limit the answers to 4 choices (life and theology are not that simple) you should ask the questions and have open responses? |
1= C....have also read many other religious texts
2= C....All myths carry seeds of truth 3= C....Jesus was likely an Avatar, as was the Buddah, and others 4= A....I do not believe in Sin, as defined in the texts you refer to By the way....which version of the Bible(s) are you refering to, as they differ quite a bit |
I've read several different versions of the Bible, but I'm not a Christian. I believe it contains many moral and historical truths, as well as many inaccuracies, deliberate omissions, inconsistencies, and altered texts.
Jeheshua Bar Joseph was a man, an extraordinarily good man, healer and teacher. My personal belief system rejects the notion of sin. Everything you do has consequences, and you have to live with and deal with those consequences, whatever they may be, and hold yourself accountable to your karmic debt. ________________________________________________________________________ Gimme That Old Time Religion - PAGAN FOR LIFE! |
1) C. there needs to be a more medium answer. I'd go about B.7
2) C. 3) C. Others are saying B & D. I consider this to be a mix of the 2... 4) D. Interesting that everybody said answered D. or stated they dont believe in it...(edit: well... almost everybody.) |
As I said, I don't care if you don't like the questions. You don't have to answer them. Thanks to everyone who answered. Keep going...
edited for tone. -lebell |
O.K then Grace:
1.) B 2.) C 3.) B 4.) C |
Grace, Too, Once a post is born, rarely does it follow the exact path that the originator wishes it to take. Unfortunately, this is the nature of a dynamic communication medium. It is also the unfortunate side effect of the same medium that comments that may (or may not) be innocent can be taken the wrong way. In any event, I would ask that you and everyone reading this post to please pay attention to what you type and to please think of how it might sound to those reading it. |
And who are you that is so wise in the ways of thread posting???
(Disclaimer: Just in case you don't get it, that was a joke. It was a reference to Monty Python and the Search For The Holy Grail. A JOKE. I feel the need to make disclaimers every time I post now so that everyone knows my tone.) |
