What the... (shared weirdness)

This happened awhile back.. almost a year or so ago. I just got a gameboy advance, and ogre tactics.. i had one of those flourescent flip lights. Anyways, i was lying in bed with my fiance, playing it. I start falling asleep, so of course, i turn it off and go to bed, placing it over on my fiance's night stand.

I get to sleep, and i start hearing the music from the game.. it confused me at first.. i woke up, about and looked at the clock, it was a little under an hour later. The gameboy advance is still sitting there: it hadn't been touched at all.

The weird part? My fiance was asleep too. She rolls over, and says "Are you still playing that game?"

She said she heard the music too. What the piss?

Anyone had anything similar to this? Just something completely out of the blue? If it was just me, i'd attribute it to a dream, but no.. we both remember it clearly.

Very interesting. I've never had an experience like that.

Sometimes in a state of partial sleep and waking, I can swear I hear the radio, nope no metal plates in my head :) I've had similar experiences with the TV and even voices. Guess I'm crazy.

Maybe you didn't turn it off? Or when you set it down on the night stand you bumped the power switch.

When I first got Sim City 3000, I played it so much that every time I closed my eyes I could see the game. It's a similar experience with the soundtrack of a game. If you hear it again and again for a long time, even when it stops playing you can sometimes still hear it.

My guess is that you were both falling asleep around the same time and, because you both had that incessant music playing in your head, you both had that experience.

That it happened to both of you, given the mechanism involved, is not entirely wierd. It's like if you both took off the hats you were wearing, and then you both could still feel the hats on your head.

Yeah, you're probably right, CoachAlan. Just sort of strikes me as odd that it was at the same time, enough to wake us both up. *shrug*

Something about gameboy music always does that to me. The sound gets ingrained in my head and whenever I try to fall asleep, I can't get it out. It's really annoying...so I just stopped turning the sound on my gameboy on.

My mom's bedroom is on the other side of my wall. Our beds are on opposite sides of the same wall. A day after my father died, we both heard him call her name at the same time.

Yeah I thought about that but when I woke up I checked the radio to make sure it wasn't on and sure enough it wasn't. Sometimes when I'm falling asleep I can hear a song play through my head exactly as I've heard it, every guitar rift, etc. so maybe my mind was just playing through songs I'd heard before.

the noise my Instant messanger makes when I get a message I hear all the time throughout the day while im away from my comp. even when im at it, i will be watching TV, hear it, walk over to my comp and theres nothin there. I think its just one of those mind things.

ManWithAPlan 07-26-2004 06:42 PM

i agree with coach alan... she probably fell asleep while you were playing and it was annoying her.

another scenario is that you used psychic suggestion and confused her when she was half asleep. (as she remembers it you were playing when she went to sleep).

a third would be she was just humoring/teasing you;-)

theman52... if you're talking about aol, i highly recommend changing the sound, i find it highly stressful and i have something a little more calming...

I was gonna say about the same thing in a whole bunch less words and with less detail lmao though ya thats a amazeing job explaining it cause I get the same thing

My specialty is explaining things. Thanks very much for the compliment.

I guess it is possible that you heard a sound and then your brain associated it with the game music. Then either your GF made the same association, or because of you telling her what you think she heard she makes the same association.

Things like that happen to me often. I hear a sound and then I could swear it was from a certain game/movie/whatever.

Your brain is just trying to make sense of a sound in your groggy state.

ManWithAPlan 07-29-2004 08:37 AM

Thanks for bringing that up Phenomenon, this brings me back to another thread.... the one about listening to stuff backwards....

a common comment is that (in songs) people only hear the "hidden backwards messages" after someone tells them what the message is..
it's the "oh yeah, i guess so" syndrome:-D
