Power Corp

I think the power corporation is increasing the speed/rotation of my meter. We only have one power supllier so we can't shop around for rates. It's also illeagal to remove the seal to check the actual unit (Public Utility). I'm not the only one who's noticed the ireegularities in their bills. Any thoughts or suggestions ?

All I can think is, if you can prove that a public utility is purposely overcharging you, then they will see a humiliating multi-million dollar class-action lawsuit against them.

I'm sure they don't want a lawsuit of this nature, so either they know they can't get caught or only a few guys are in on this. I would be surprised if it would be worth it for a government sanctioned monopoly to cheat its consumers this way rather than just raising rates (that's the beauty of a monopoly).

Not knowing much about the electric company, I can't help you to figure out whether your fears are unfounded, though.

Wll said skullfunk, it's amusing you mention the rate hike path, for they did just that just months ago. The part that makes me wonder is the consumption. There are months were I am sure we used less electricity but the bill showed a higher consumption. Frustrating... very frustrating.

Figure out where every circuit in your house or apartment goes. Your neighbors may be leeching.

Especially if it is an apartment

They also could be mis-reading your meter, start keeping track of the meter reading yourself

A lot of companies project what your bill will be and don't even bother coming to check it. If you feel your bill is high, look at the kilowatt hours the bill says and then look at your meter. Similar thing happened to us with the gas company recently. Dad had to call them and had to demand they came to read the meter before they credited our account with the overages.

My bill says whether it's an estimate or an actual reading. But it appears that in my neighborhood the meter guy actually checks the meter every month. What a waste of time, I say.

Buy a camera and photograph your meter on the same day of the month each month and keep a record of it. You can spend $2.00 and have the photo notarized to show that it was taken on the day you say it was, or find another way to establish the date. A Digital camera will date the pix, too.

Another thing you might do is video tape the meter for a few moments at the same time each day to establish its' speed, and keep that as a record.

You can alter digital camera's dates. Same thing with 35 mm cameras, and video recorders. Only way is to mail them to yourself and get the post mark on them. Don't open em unless you have to. And make doubles so you can have a copy without opening the envelope.
