Best albums of first 1/2 of 2005?

I started a similar thread last year. Just post what you think the best albums have been so far in 2005.

NIN - With Teeth

Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel To Anything
System of a Down - Mesmerize

Lots of great stuff coming out lately and it looks pretty good for the rest of the year too. Here's a few of the best ones i've picked up so far this year:

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...68987btfcr.jpg

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...73896jintm.jpg

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...84517d74cm.jpg

There's a few others that could be up there as well but I haven't given them enough of a chance yet to say for sure. Been great listening so far though, seems like every tuesday lately there's something new worth picking up.

AVoiceOfReason 06-23-2005 07:45 AM

I'm going to go with COLD ROSES by Ryan Adams. I've listened to a ton of stuff on Rhapsody this year; the new Oasis, White Stripes, Ringo Starr, Aimee Mann and a few others I'm not thinking of as I sit here, but Adams' disc takes my gold medal thus far.

Bacchanal 06-23-2005 08:13 AM

My list, other than the first they're in no order:

1. Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Team Sleep - Team Sleep
NIN - With Teeth
Fantomas - Suspended Animation

rockzilla 06-23-2005 10:29 AM

Almost all of my picks are up there so far... Mars Volta, Beck, Queens Of The Stone Age, Gorillaz.

The only new one I'll add is Stephen Malkmus - Face The Truth. It's the next best thing to hearing a new Pavement album.

streak_56 06-23-2005 10:45 AM

X&Y - Coldplay

Self Titled - Matt Mays and El Torpedo

Self Titled - Theory of a Dead Man

Mesmorize - System of a Down

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing - Jack Johnson

Music from the O.C. - Mix 4

FoolThemAll 06-23-2005 05:17 PM

Only two of the CDs I've bought so far this year were released in 2005. One was Belle & Sebastian's Push Barman to Open Old Wounds, but that was a compilation of EPs released years earlier overseas. The other was Brendan Benson's The Alternative to Love. That was pretty good, so I'll go with that.

muckluck 06-23-2005 06:23 PM

Out of Exile - Audioslave and the new NIN album were both pretty good.

Sleepyjack 06-23-2005 07:40 PM

just off the top of my head....

Sleater Kinney - The Woods
Architecture In Helsinki - in case we die
Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger
Antony and the JOhnsons- I am a bird now
System of a down - Mesmerize
Shining - In the kingdom of kitsch you will be a monster
THe Books - Lost and Safe
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
The Decemberists - Picaresque

I second the new Cephalic Carnage as well as Fantomas' - Suspended Animation (the latter I picked up at Best Buy last week). I cannot wait to see songs like Wraith and Piecemaker live! |\m/| ( - - ) |\m/|

Gotten more 2005 releases since then, so the list looks more like:

Brendan Benson - The Alternative to Love
Andrew Bird and the Mysterious Production of Eggs
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
Of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins

Of those, I still need to give the Andrew Bird a few more listens, but my favorite so far by far is The Sunlandic Twins. The Queens is great when good, and boring when not. For every fantastic "Burn the Witch" or "Someone's in the Wolf", there's an uninteresting "In My Head" or "You've Got a Killer Scene There, Man...". Andrew Bird's the same way, wonderful spots and lackluster spots, though I'm more hopeful that the lackluster would grow on me with further listens. Benson's good, but only a couple tracks might qualify as more than ordinary.

labob 08-12-2005 10:34 PM

Oooh, jealous...

I've been meaning to go back to Borders and read the article on them in Q...I've been in love with Noel Gallagher for 10 years now. That aside, I love the FEEL of the new album. It's very vintage. Love it.

spectre 08-12-2005 11:36 PM

A CD so good, I listen to it daily.
